PCS Question

I'll be moving in with my parents and renting out our house when DH leaves for Basic. I'll be bringing a pretty minimal amount of stuff to my parents, and storing everything else in my in-laws basement. The have a bulk head so it has easy access. My questions are:

1) Moving stuff into their basement, I'll probably have everything in boxes. Should I just re-open the boxes before the movers come so they can seal it?

2) Can I designate where the pick up is? Or does it have to me at my residence for some reason?

Re: PCS Question

  • I would just leave the boxes as is.  The movers may choose to open them and reseal them after the make sure everything is packed how they like it.  You should have a pre-move survey of the property and your stuff so you can double check with the moving company then with what they would like you to do.

Your H should be able to change your residence to your in-laws while you are living there, so then it wouldn't be an issue.  They should do a pickup from whatever location you request though.

Beach is right- it depends on the contractor. I had all my stuff boxed up at a storage unit for our PCS. The company re-opened, inventoried, repack those they felt needed it, then sealed them up.  ETA: the contractor asked that I have the boxes open ready for inspection. I would recommend asking when they call you.

#2. I also had mine picked up at my storage unit (which happened to be my mother's business). They just needed an address, phone number and for me to physically be there since I had a POA for H.

my husbands paperwork said he still lives at his parents house, but everything with my name on it has our address. That should be where the movers come, shouldnt it?

  • 1. No, I'd leave the boxes sealed. Hopefully there will be a Pre-move survey and you can ask questions then.

    2. You can designate two pick-up locations. Our first PCS after we got married, we had a storage unit. The movers picked up everything there as well as at our apartment.
