I twisted my knees skiing a month ago, badly enough so that normal walking around was difficult for a few days. I was still a little sore about a week later, when I started going for short walks. I tried running but the ligaments on the back of my knees started hurting after about a mile. A few days later, I was able to do some weightlifting, although I skipped the lunges and squats (but static reverse lunges were fine). I kept up walking, not running, and still had some soreness, especially the ligaments behind my knee.
Two weeks after the accident, I started running again, and oddly, afterward my knees felt better than they had in weeks. I kept up the running with no problem and did some light weightlifting (including step-ups) that went fine. I also bought a road bike and started spending half an hour or so each weekend trying to learn how to ride it. (I hadn't ridden a bike in 15 years before that.)
And now my knees are worse then ever, but it's the kneecap, not the ligaments on the back of the knee. It seems similar to runner's knee. I took 3 days off from any exercise, but it doesn't seem any better now. So I'll take more time off.
But it's so frustrating! For all the reasons that injuries always are - I had a goal in mind and was making excellent progress toward it, I want to burn calories, exercise makes me feel strong and calm and healthy. This sucks.
Not so much looking for advice, because I know that all there is to do is rest, ice, and see about going to the doctor. Maybe do upper body lifting and try swimming. I just need to vent, because this sucks!
