Is there always a bag check for longer races?

I am running the 10 mile in a 10&20 mile race on Sunday. I've never had to use a bag check before because dh or a friend would always hold my stuff. This is the first race where I will have to check my stuff.

Theres no mention of it anywhere, so I'm wondering....? Is there always a bag check..?

Nope, not always. My 10 miler did not have a bag check but that was because we could park <500 feet from start line. I would email the race director.

  • Nope, you may just have to leave the stuff in your car.

I agree to email the race director, but if you didn't see anything about it, then I'm assuming they probably don't have one.

  • I wouldn't assume that no mention of bag check= no bag check.  I did a race a couple of weeks ago that had a bag check despite no mention of it on the website.

I don't think I've ever done a race w/o a bag check.  especially in the winter, but this might be because I live in an area where public transit is highly utilized.  I also wouldn't trust an RD to answer every single email sent the day before a race.  is there an expo?  cna you just ask there? or leave your bag in your car?

  • I have to park 1/2 mile from the start. So it wouldn't really work to leave my stuff in the car. I don't remember seeing a bag check last year...but I wasn't looking either.

I hardly ever check a bag and almost always go to races by myself. What do you need to check?

I just bring my car key in my shorts and leave everything else in my car.

  • Really the only thing I'll need to check is my jacket and race packet/swag. I can probably just leave my jacket in the car and freeze my ass off before the race.

I am guessing you are picking ur packet up right before the race? If so, ask them if they can hold the rest of your packet (minus bib) until after the race. I always see people still at the packet tables post race.

Buy some cheap socks at target for $2 and cut the bottoms, and you have cheap arm warmers. There are some cheap colorful toe socks in the womens sock area that will be cheap and cute!

That's not too far away. Just get there early, get your packet/swag, take it back to your car, maybe chill in your car to stay warm, then head to the start line as late as you're comfortable with. Take a throw-away shirt to wear at the start line.

    Good luck!
