Hi all,
This April, DH and I are flying into OAK and out of SAN, 8 days later. Our plan is to stay in San Francisco for about 3 days, then rent a car and drive down the coast, stopping at whatever pretty places we like. At the moment, the only thing set in stone (besides the plane tickets) is the hotel for our last two nights in San Diego; we are waiting to hear back from an airbnb host to confirm an apt in SF.
Could you please recommend your favorite scenic spots along the way, worth spending the night or just stopping for lunch? Please forgive me if this itinerary has been discussed to death, and do feel free to refer me to a relevant prior thread - my search didn't return any results for some reason. TIA!
Re: San Fran to San Diego road trip: options
Sorry if I didn't make myself clear: our flight back is from SAN - as in San Diego airport
Duly noted
Advice? Pretty please?
We did a road trip along the PCH from SF to Pismo Beach last year, it was fantastic! The places that stand out in my mind are Half Moon Bay, Monterey (the aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf, Pebble Beach), Carmel, Big Sur (stunning views), the Hearst Castle in San Simeon, and then ended up staying in Pismo Beach, a nice beach town near San Luis Obispo.
Yep, saw that - gorgeous! Thanks so much
From Pismo to San Diego I would stop in:
Santa BarbaraSanta Monica
Laguna Beach or San Clemente
And then end in San Diego.
Are you renting your car in Oakland or SF? If the latter, I would definitely wait until you are about to leave San Francisco before I rented it--parking is a b*tch and expensive.
Be aware of what time you drive through LA. Los Angeles traffic is a BEAST.
Laguna beach for sure - LA. Balboa park, the zoo, sea world, pacific beach all in San diego. We did the trolly tour, it was great, you can get off where ever and it takes you to all the sites.
Did you guys want to do the theme parks? Disney, knotts berry, Cali adventures...
Oh and I second the LA traffic, it's awful!
Yes, from everything we read, we got the idea: SF is waaay better without a car. We are renting it in the city on the day we are planning to leave.
Thanks for the LA traffic warning - will allow extra time!
