I have a question about including a blog on my resume under "Other Accomplishments"
It's not a personal blog, it is a wedding inspiration blog. I am currently an Event Management student interning at a museum in which we do many weddings, bar mitzvahs, etc. and I was wondering when I apply for paid positions (whether at the museum or elsewhere) if including my blog in the accomplishments section would be a plus?
Basically, I would want the fact that the wedding blog is on my resume to say that I am up on the latest wedding trends since I will be dealing with weddings weekly. I do not want it to imply that I will be using company time to maintain the blog. And it's not even just a little blog, it's a blog with over 2,000 followers and I've posted over 1,000 entries. Do you think it is something worth putting on a resume considering it is work related, or like some websites say, just keep it off the resume?
Re: Blog On Resume
But, your blog is related to your industry. I would have someone who will be honest look it over and edit the text, review the formatting, etc. make it look really good and professional.
In your case, I think including it is a great idea. A lot of people start industry-related blogs for exposure to advance their careers. But, if you apply somewhere that is irrelevant to your blog, don't include it. But realize, it tells a lot about you. Read this post on this great blog. Here's an excerpt:
The main thing to keep in mind is that if you list it, it?s going to become part of your application package; you?ll be saying, ?here?s evidence of how I write, how I use logic, what my judgment is like, how I present myself to the world, and generally who I am.? Knowing that, will it help or harm your candidacy?
And DON'T do this. Read the first question in the comments too.
If you think the blog will give you a step up when they are still sorting through resumes, you need to mention it sooner. You can use it in your CL instead of your resume.
This is a good idea as well. If it will showcase your experience and what you are able to do and it is in line with the job you are applying for I'd go for it. It's a tough market.
