Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta--Anyone else hate this show?

I was really excited about this show--the New York version is one of my favorite shows, I'm a Southern girl (from NC) and can get sucked into almost any reality show there is. But, good grief, I find almost everyone on this show to be so unlikable! Soooo much snark, condescension, and eye-rolling--everyone on staff seems to hate their job and their clients. I know they look for the drama, but the New York version is so endearing!

I have tried several times to watch it, but I just can't get through an entire show without getting annoyed. Am I the only one?

When people are the most unlovable is usually when they need it the most.

Re: Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta--Anyone else hate this show?

  • With every fiber of my being.

I saw an episode once where the woman who owns/runs the salon refused to let the fianc? see the dress of the bride because it was "against her beliefs." Who cares what she thinks? If the bride/fianc? wants it, shut up.

I can't watch it. It grates my nerves. There's always new episodes of this but I miss the NY version. I never see new episodes anymore!

  • I'm not a fan.  Monty is a poor man's Randy.

And all the clients are supremely annoying, and can never seem to make a decision.  The salespeople are push and have high pitched, whiny voices.

  • The salespeople are awful. It is so unprofessional for them to bad mouth their clients on television. Such poor taste.

  • I don't like any of the 'Say Yes to the Dress' shows.   The few times I tried to watch it, it was girls spending way too much money on a  dress they can't afford.  Or they made it sound like it anyway.
  • I love the NY one but I can't watch Alanta.  It is so awful.

  • It's awful. I love the NY version and watch it whenever possible. I just turn off the tv if Atlanta is on. The filming isn't great, the stories are dumb, the salon isn't pretty to look at, and the staff is whiny!
  • ITA, NY is great but Atlanta is soo annoying.  It seems like at least one customer on every show can't make a decision for crap/leaves without a dress.

  • Does anyone know what happened to Elise, the original Director of Sales on the NY show?  After a few seasons, she disappeared and Joan took over her job.   I've heard that she is still there but not on camera, or is now at Provonias, or that she is at a salon in Boston.  Anyone know the truth?

On TLC's website, as of August 2011, Elise was still at Kleinfeld.  The rumor was that Pronovias head hunted her and she went to their flagship NY store, but I'm guessing she's just not on camera anymore.  I like Joan well enough but her voice grates on me-I loved Elise!

  • Thank you for the update.  I liked Elise.  It sounds like Joan has spasmodic dysphonia, which isn't very easily treated.  So, while her voice can bug me, I try to ignore it.

  • Ha, love all of this, glad to see I'm not missing anything and it really is just that bad. I especially love this:

No one could compare to Randy! He really seems to love his job and the brides, and enjoys finding them the right dress, while with Monty it just seems like such a bother.

  • I don't like it nearly as I enjoy the NY shows.  I think you all have brought some clarity to the reasons why I don't like it/enjoy the NY shows so much more.

I also don't like the phrase "Jack them up".  To me, that's got more of a negative connotation, certainly not a phrase I'd use to try and "seal the deal" on an expensive sale.  I'd have thought a high class place like that would have a more high class way to express themselves.

I still think Monty and Lori look like one another...and I'd guess they were brother and sister.  Does anyone know the real scoop?

  • The owner (Lori's) daughter's wedding was on Platinum weddings a few years ago. The girl wore three dresses on her wedding day. I realize that Platinum weddings is supposed to be lavish, but the whole ordeal was so pretentious it was ridiculous!  I can't even remember all the details, but there was so much overkill.
  • I prefer the NY version of the show because the store is gorgeous and the staff seem to really enjoy their work.
