What do you know about Germany
We are going to Germany in August. We are flying into Munich staying a couple days and then planning on driving to Zurich and then on to Stuttgart to metup with my aunt and uncle (who are flying into Frankfort) Any suggestions are renting a car during this time or where to stay in Munich? Any and all suggestions welcome.
Re: What do you know about Germany
I LOVED Munich. Neuschwanstein Castle was a great trip if you have the time. I would stay in the downtown Munich area. I really wanted to stay at the Mandarin Oriental but it was crazy expensive. I would just look for hotels that are near there. Ours was forgettable but clean and cheap and in a perfect location. And dinner at Der Rathskeller was fabulous. We also did Hof Brau which is really touristy but still fun
And as for hotels in Munich - we stayed at Le Meridien, which is right across the street from the train station. The hotel was nice and comfortable. The staff speak great English and were really nice. The location was convenient because we could just go to the train station for a bite to eat if we didn't want to do a full blown meal. It was also good for coming and going to the city. The farther in advance you make reservations, the cheaper it is at that hotel. Especially if you do the prepaid nonrefundable rate. I think we only paid 110 euro a night with the prepaid rate. We had to add a couple extra nights because DH got there two days earlier than expected and it was about 180 euro a night since it was last minute.
Visit Berlin!!! It is the capital city of Germany and it's a great place to visit. There are several attractions to see and there are many good resorts, that you will enjoy staying there.
Good luck!!!

It is a good thing you are looking in to this now. A word of warning...Many (most) German companies shut down for August and everyone is on vacation. It becomes difficult to find reasonably priced places to stay as those get snatched up early. There are lots of great places to go in Germany - Neuschwanstein, Heidelburg, The romantic road, The Mosel (but that may be too far west), Neurenburg.
Most cities have bike rentals at the train station. Many tourist cities have day passes for the trams.
Sorry I cant recommend places to stay as I have mostly been to Germany on work trips. The one vacation I took (in August) we stayed in campgrounds.
