Heart rate monitor suggestions

I'm looking to get a heart rate monitor but honestly don't know much about them. I'm training for a triathlon and would love to know I'm hitting my target rate during my solo workouts and not just giving in too easily (or overdoing it).

It sounds like a lot of you use them, so what are your recommendations? Certain brands or what I should really look for. I'd definitely like something reliable that won't crap out after a year.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Heart rate monitor suggestions

  • I love my Polar f4, but I don't know if it is good for multi sport. The Polar website should be able to do a comparison of their models so you can find exactly what you need. I have had mine for several years using it multiple times a week and it is still going strong.

  • Thanks! I'm not necessarily looking to use it for the triathlon, but at least to wear when I'm out running or at the gym.

  • The one I use is a combination of a pedometer and heart rate monitor and works great. You should check out an online medical supplies store for something similar.
