I said no, but my question would be WHY they don't want them. If they are severely allergic or self-aware enough to know they wouldn't be a good pet owner, I might think about it, but if they're just an a-hole who hates animals, NO. That is usually a good indicator of deeper issues (selfishness, lack of compassion, etc).

like, lets say its because they just dont like dogs or cats. Its just not their thing. They like kids, people, etc. just not pets.

I was a person who never grew up with pets and hence never had a thought about owning one. If I had taken this poll then I would have said yes I would date someone who didnt want pets. Although, with that being said my husband grew up with dogs and now we own one ourselves. I love our dog and would answer different now. So hmmm, great poll question.

I said no but it really depends. I have a cat. If being with them meant I would have to give up my cat, well then, I wouldn't be with them. She's a cat. I handle all of her care. She usually does her own thing. I wouldn't move in with someone if they required I get rid of my cat just because he didn't like her. I also wouldn't give her up for someone if they were allergic. She's a part of my family that I'm not willing to give up. I would, however, be with someone who accepted my cat but didn't want another pet.

My dogs and I are a package deal. They are young and have long lives ahead of them, God willing. While sometimes it is tedious to have dogs- they rule your schedule- I really love having them and always had pets growing up.

And people who don't like animals? That creeps me out. Just don't want the responsibility of a pet? I get that, but I'd never get rid of mine.

I have two cats and a golden retriever. I had a bf once that hinted for me to get rid of my cats so he and could get more serious. No thanks. My pets are an extension of me and they bring so much joy to my life.

Honestly, someone who hates pets is someone with deeper issues and it would be a huge red flag for me. You can love pets and not have any for many reasons like you travel all the time, you're allergic, you live in a small appartment, you live in the city... But just hating pets? Yeah no. I didn't grow up with pets and I love them. I actually have a cat now that I loooooove and I used to be meh about cats.

Absolutely not. While I understand there are very valid reasons for not wanting animals, it would be a deal breaker for me. My dog is my child. I've had him since he was a puppy (he's now 7) and there is no way I could give him up. Even though there are days where he drives me crazy, I can't imagine not having him around.

I echo the other comments. My dog and I are a package deal. I, too, have had him since he was a puppy and he is 5.5 years old. If a guy I date does not like dogs then we can't date. I will not give up my dog for a man.

No way. I have never lived without a pet in my entire life, so I can't even imagine it. I never plan on having a pet-free home, unless I am just in between animals and waiting to get a new one. I also volunteer at an animal shelter. I think not liking animals at all says something deeper about a person, and I usualy tend toward animal people anyway.

I forgot to say I would never ever give up my cat for anyone or anything. Not even for an apartment. I've seen stories about people here (the nest, not this board) giving up their pet because their spouse didn't like pets. More than anything, I see it as a HUGE red flag. And I feel the same way about a bf/partner/so/spouse/etc asking you to give up something important in your life like cooking, scuba diving....

I can see that someone may not want a pet, which is their choice. But someone who *hates* pets- never. I just don't see how you can hate a dog, cat, etc.. They're unconditional love.

Nope, no way. In fact, if a guy meets my dog and isn't excited enough about it, it's kind of a deal breaker for me. I've had her for over half my life!
