  • Question, how often do orders/assignments get cancelled? Is that common? I'm sorry, I'm still new to this.
  • Dude, that sucks. I'm sorry!

The only reason one of them will be cancelled (unsure which, yet) is because the system somehow put 2 RIPs through. He's working with the assignment person now. I'm not sure if it's often that orders get cancelled when they just get one set, my husband has only been in for 3 years but we've never heard of that happening.

We have heard of people turning orders down, though.

This is why I try not to get excited or settled into the idea of ANYTHING until it's 100% as in AFTER the fact. :)

Thank you. We just found out we have an assignment to AK, and I'm really hoping nothing falls through. He keeps telling me not to get my hopes up, so I don't get disappointed just in case.

How do you prepare and get everything done knowing it could all fall through at the last second? Especially if you have to go from Florida, to Alaska

I'm certainly no expert in the matters of PCS'ing, especially OCONUS locations. I don't hear of a lot of people having orders change, though. I'd say just go ahead with the planning and whatever happens happens. Unfortunately, such is the life.

  •  It happened to DH too. He got his notification that he was going to Little Rock and we even got a welcome letter on the mail. After a week his orders was cancelled. He found out that the person that supposed to sign the papers didn't sign it. But he got the orders back and we are moving to Arkansas in a few days.

I know what you mean. It's really frustrating and hopefully he'll figured it out soon!

I'm starting to learn, I have no say in where we live.  I can deal with that though, I just don't wanna sell our cars, or quit my job and then find out we're staying. We'll have to put all the stuff like that off 'til we're a month or so out.

  • Dude, that blows.

I've got my fingers crossed for a third set of orders somewhere stateside on your wish list.  Fat chance, I know but you know the military...it's not true until you're there.

  • I heard Guam is okay. There are worse places.

  • We had orders for Guam cancelled 30 days before we were supposed to move there.  They got changed to Japan.  Fun times!  This was after 3 previous assignments (in about as many months) fell through, including a by name request, although we only had verbal confirmation of those.  Oh, yes, our first year of marriage was interesting.

One of the explanations for the Japan/Guam thing was that it was something like being assigned to the 36th instead of the 35th, so it was a typo.  But, we had contacted our sponsor in Guam, and they were anticipating H specifically, so who knows.

Our story, though, is quite rare.  It shouldn't scare anyone.  We've never met people who were as consistently jerked around as us.

My H loved it there, I'm really not too worried. Hopefully we get a great follow on, if he stays in.

H almost had his orders to SD cancelled on him.

His training squadron had given him and another guy orders to Miramar and then the next day, the other dude (who will be referred to as dude from now on) was trying to get everything set up to move and IPAC told him that he wasn't going anywhere. He went to the CO's office to find out. Apparently, Dude's orders were getting cancelled and they wanted to know if anyone else was supposed to go to CA. Dude said "Yes, Sgt. Cupcake". They called my H and told him. There was no funding for them to move to CA, so they were staying in NC. Since they all just came from CA, they would not be moving them back. H knew this was wrong, for him at least, since this was his second enlistment, that didn't apply to him.

While H was working on checking this all out, H told CO that either way, he was going to be paying SOMETHING out of pocket since I had yet to move out to NC, so if we had to pay for our move to CA OOP, he would do it, so don't cancel his orders right now. He had to get a whole bunch of people to sign off on it, but they were going to let him do it. When he went to get the signature from IPAC, the kid taking care of it was like "Um. What do you mean there's no funding?" H explained the whole thing and the kid was like "Hold on..."

He came back 2 minutes later with paper orders WITH funding. The web orders apparently don't show funding of any sort. So everyone else panicked. H's orders stayed in tact and Dude's orders did not because he just said "Oh, okay" instead of double checking or trying another way.

And that's the story of how you need to triple and quadruple check everything when it comes to orders. lol

This is the stuff mini heart attacks are made of.
