What did you do for your 30th birthday?

I am trying to come up with ideas. I don't know if I want to do something for myself or spend it with people but in this case, I need a solid plan.

Re: What did you do for your 30th birthday?

  • I didn't do much, I was in the middle of my IVF cycle so we just went out to dinner.  I had to have my shots at a specific time so I'll never forget my XH shooting me up in the parking lot.

Now what I plan to do for my 40th is entirely different!  Want to do a big girls weekend to like Key West or New Orleans or Vegas.

  • Mine is next month and I have no idea what I am doing.

I will probably thow a dinner/dancing thing together last minute and keep it simple/low key because that's how I roll.

  • Not much. My 30th birthday was about a month ago. I was at the beginning of a stressful semester and I was just exhausted. I went for a massage, a pedicure and had a dinner and lunch with family. Otherwise it was very low key. I would have liked to be somewhere warm laying on a beach but that wasn't feasible. I am hoping I can do something later to celebrate it.
  • Mine was 5 years ago!  eeek!  In the afternoon, my girlfriends and I had mani/pedi's, checked into a hotel, got dressed up, had dinner at my favorite restaurant and ended the night bar hopping on the Southside of Pittsburgh (which is 30 plus blocks of nothing but bars and clubs).  It was so much fun!!

  • Mine was 4 years ago (feels like a lifetime!!).  I had all of my favorite girls come into town and we went out on the town.  We drank, we danced and we laughed...A LOT!! We all still talk about some of the craziness from that night!!

Happy almost birthday!! I'm loving my 30s!

  • I have no suggestions, but I need to get thinking as well! I was originally going to do my dream trip and go to Italy for 2 weeks, but I really don't think its going to happen because of budget :(

But, I thought I would share this in case you hadn't seen it. They were talking about it on the MM board so hopefully it will give you a few ideas!

  • I went to a dueling piano bar with a bunch of friends. I was on the fence of wanting to do something, but Itwas great and I'm so glad I decided to do something fun!

  • I went for a 30th week blow out.

During the week preceding my birthday, I went on a ski trip with one of my closest friends to celebrate. We did a lot of skiing, snowshoeing and drinking.

I came back into town the day before my birthday and on my actual birthday F and I went brunch at my favorite spot, to the ballet and out for fondue (one of my favorite foods).

  • I just went out for a nice steak dinner with BF (now FI) and enjoyed an expensive bottle of red wine we had picked up a few months earlier. It was low key, but that's what I wanted.
  • My ex and I had just started dating at the time and he planned a surprise dinner for me with my family at an italian restaurant I like.  It was sweet of him to make the effort.

I went to Hawaii with a good friend of mine a few weeks before my 30th bday so that was my gift to myself.

Funny that the girl he dumped me for is 29 or she was at the time.  I don't know when her bday is.  I wonder what he will do with her.  She has a pretty huge family so I'm guessing they will throw her a big party or something.

    You need a frontal lobotomy.

My 30th was a nice time.  A big dinner with a lot of friends, followed by dinner and dancing.  The ex planned it all.

BF's 30th is coming up in May.  He's not really into bdays, but I do want to do something special for him.  Hmmm.

So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

So that makes you in your mid-thirties at least.  You'd never know it what with all of your co-dependency issues and the comment referenced above.

I'm 33.  I guess since I am in my thirties I shouldn't have been devastated that the father of my child left me.  I probably should have bounced back a few weeks later and just forgotten all about him.

Can you possibly be this dense?  Perhaps you've already been lobotomized....

Get over yourself.  Get over your ex.  No one's saying you have to "bounce back right away," but you are obsessive and unhealthy.

  • Ok I think I have a plan. I want to go skydiving. I just need to find people who want to go to!

ME! ME!! ME!!!  *jumps up and down waving hand in the air excitedly*

  • I know you just posted that you have a plan, but thought I'd answer anyway :)

A friend and I did a joint 30th birthday  - it was 80s themed. We went to a local bar and they let us decorate a bit, have our own 80s playlist, and show Sixteen Candles in the background. We put money down for people to buy drinks on us and just talked and laughed and got drunk. And we told everyone who came that costumes were not optional. It was a lot of fun.

  • I'm not 30 until next summer but we're talking about doing a Vegas trip for us girls!  My aunt's friend is turning 40 so it will be fun to celebrate her milestone b-day at the same time!
