Need help slimming thighs - does running help?

I'm a newbie to running and run at 5.7mph for 2 miles on the TM. Gradually I'm increasing my speed and distance. I would really like to slim down my thighs asap. Will running help with this?

Re: Need help slimming thighs - does running help?

  • My thighs have become more muscular from running, but my genes have dictated that I am going to have big thighs no matter what.
  • You cannot spot reduce-especially asap.

I have been running consistantly for 2 months now 3 days a week, eating clean 85% of the time and doing stregth twice a week, cross training 2 days a week.

I have lost everywhere but my thighs since I think I am gaining more muscle. Everyone is different but don't expect to lose a lot of weight in one area right a way. It will take time.

  • I think my legs and especially my butt look better since I started running consistently.  I haven't lost a single pound but I can see a difference.  Not so much smaller, but tighter (for lack of a better word).  Maybe whatever fat I had on those parts are more muscle now.
  • Everyone is different, but running makes my thighs bigger.
  • I found running did help with weight loss but a healthy, potion controlled diet helped the most. My thighs did slim down along with the rest of me. I have notice slimming along with increased muscle tone in my legs since I started weighting. Like the previous poster said, you can't spot train.

  • I lost inches off my thighs by working on figuring out caloric needs and eating less than I burned in a day. I actually did less cardio and running, and focused on strength training. I will always have larger thighs, but shaping them through lifting heavy and overall fat loss make them look much better.

Mmmm...OTOH...you can swell for months afterwards.

  • Try the Brazil Butt Lift videos from Beachbody.com.  They slimmed my thighs and made my legs look longer and lean...more effective than running if that's your goal.
  • Running (especially hills) is the only exercise that will really trim my thighs.

  • Mine don't get smaller just tighter. Like all the other ladies-you can't spot reduce. The only area reduced fast when I train is my boobs.. never an area I'd like to reduce.
