No way can I spend $400+ on a blender, and I also have no need for my blender to make bread dough or anything like that. The only thing I want it to do is make smoothies. Any recommendations for a blender under $250 that is great at making smoothies? If it makes a difference, I do add things like veggies and flax seeds, and it would be awesome (but not essential) if it could grind up nuts to use in the smoothies.

My super-cheapster Hamilton Beach does smoothies just fine.
For seeds, I use a $10 Mr. Coffee coffee grinder. Adding them whole to the blender with the other smoothie ingredients doesn't work well IMO, but pre-grinding them in small quantities (and storing in the fridge) works great.
