Bailey was rescued from a urine soaked cement kennel in an overcrowded South Georgia kill shelter in the fall of 2010. His fur was matted, his gums were diseased, his heart was wormy....
He and I met at a Humane Society event where H and I were volunteering. We weren't in the market for a dog, but it was love at first sight for both me and Bailey. I held him all day and tried to sell him to other interested parties while he drooled on me due to a broken jaw suffered during tooth extraction, and I fell more and more in love.
A couple of adoption booths came and went, and Bailey was still surprisingly unadopted. Sure, he is an older dog, but look at that face! I like to think it was meant to be. He wasn't exactly the 90 lb german Shepherd Mr. Tamb had been dreaming of, but in August 2010, he came home with us.
Now Bailey lives a charmed life. He even seems to be aging in reverse. He has a family who loves and spoils him:

and most of all, eating and sleeping:

But Mabel is just, well Mabel. So she is fantastic.

Just a little more about Mabel. M. Mabel Mabelstein was born "Bubbles" on September 9, 2007 to a lovely lady named Seren and a handsome gentleman named Mr. Holyfield. She came into our lives in November 2007, and immediately asked us to change her name to something more appropriate. She has been a source of strength and comfort for us, and has some really interesting skills. She's our resident real estate economist, NFL analyst, and Jobs Czar. She's also our backup babysitter.
I bet her FUPA's name is Shane, like the gunslinger/drifter of literature.--HappyTummy
Bails admits that athleticism isn't his strong suit. He wasn't interested in picking his way over rocks and tree roots that were higher than his stubby legs.
Also consider this a plug for Mr. Tamb - he carried Bailey in that backpack for 3 miles.
Bailey says "my mom tried to take a video of how cute I am with her cell phone camera, but she kind of sucks at it. I love her anyway."
