Zumba and 2x workouts a day

I'm a very light poster on the H&F but wanted to ask this question.

I currently do bootcamp 4 days a week in the morning, I"m on a major weightloss kick and am working with a nutritionist to do is safely.  She suggested to meet my goal by the end of May to get 2 work outs in a day if possible (while giving myself a day off to rest).  I've gotten my eating under control and stay within my calories, carbs etc.  I do have PCOS though so losing weight is much harder.  My bootcamp trainer also thinks more workouts are a good idea for my goals.

I was thinking of doing either an aquatic zumba or a regular zumba class during my lunch break or early evening (I telecommute so I have time during lunch to do this).  I just worry about making a fool of myself and the video's I saw online makes it look like all older women (50+) do the aquatic so I fear I'm too young since I'm 31.  I like class type settings but lack the coordination.  I wouldn't do the zumba everyday but maybe 2 or 3 times a week.

Is this something that's easy to pick up even though I can't dance?

Thoughts?

Re: Zumba and 2x workouts a day

  • I do zumba classes. My advice is to check out a few and see how you like them. For most people, the coordination will eventually come. Certain instructors are more appropriate for beginners and the uncoordinated. Some instructors offer no instruction while others will help break down the movements. Just keep moving and try to go in the same general direction as everyone else. I've never tried aqua zumba. Even if you are the youngest person, who cares if you are having fun?

There is such thing as too much exercise, so listen to your body. Resting and refueling are important.

  • I just started doing zumba this year and I LOVE it. I wouldn't plan to do it on lunch, though, as I'm a hot, sweaty mess at the end of class.  It's a great workout.  I found it fairly easy to pick up since there's really only maybe 10-12 steps that are repeated in various ways.  Within each song, there's only maybe 4 different steps that you are doing.  It did take a few classes to be able to stop staring at the instructor's feet and actually get into it, but it's so much fun!
