9:05 flight from Heathrow too early?

DH and I are leaving London Sunday morning and have a 9:05 flight out of Heathrow (we are staying in north London near St. Pancras Station).  I figure we'll need to leave the hotel at like 6 a.m. to get to the airport at 7 - will we have trouble getting a cab that early on a Sunday?  (Sorry if this is a stupid question, but this will be my first time in London. TIA!)

Re: 9:05 flight from Heathrow too early?

  • I've never taken a taxi to/from Heathrow - I always take the tube.  That is too early for the tube on a Sunday unless you stay at the Heathrow Hilton, which is connected to one of the terminals.  I'm not sure how far that is above ground, but it's over an hour long tube ride.  That'll be a pretty hefty taxi bill if it takes a similar amount of time by taxi.
  • Book a minicab in advance.  Google "London minicab" for sites.  They'll pick you up and it's cheaper than a cab.

This. And I'd leave earlier than 6. St Pancras is at the opposite end of the city from Heathrow.

It won't take that long in a taxi that early on a Saturday morning. I would book a car service actually, they will have a flat rate.

This is what I did. My flight was at 8:30am. A car service picked me up at 5:30am. I booked it online.

  • Definitely book the car in advance. I was in London a few weeks ago with an early Sunday departure, and the hotel had some trouble getting us a taxi at 5am. They had to try a few different companies before they found something. Not the kind of stress you want to deal with before an early flight.

  • Even Addison Lee has some good rates that are on par with or lower than taxi rates. I would absolutely book a cab.

The alternative would be to take a bus to Paddington and then hop on the Heathrow Express.
