Is this mythical? (birth control)
Can you skip your period if you skip your reminder pills and just move on to the next pack? I attempted and I'm having a light period. Is my body weird or is this actually possible? Oh and my cramps are sucking.
Re: Is this mythical? (birth control)
What she said.
I used to do this so I could skip periods while on vacation.

It works, but not well with a low dose pill, especially the triphasic kind.
The idea behind it is that a pill period isn't a real period. It's called a withdrawal period, from the lack of hormones during the 4th week of the pack (the placebo pills). You don't have to take the 4th week of pills, and I never did, but they're there so that people don't get out of the habit.
If you start a new pack instead of the placebo pills, you never withdraw the hormones, so no period. If you try this with the low dose/triphasics, you're likely to have a lot of break through bleeding.
I used to skip mine all the time, or just manipulate it so I had it a different week than I was supposed to. I originally wanted to go on Seasonale but my insurance wouldn't cover it, so my doctor just told me to do it this way instead.
Usually it would just completely skip, but once in a while I would get some light spotting. If anything for you it should at least be much shorter.
It's low-dose. But it also has synthetic hormones in it too.
Do you like Yaz? I went on it for like 6 months maybe and got horrible headaches in the side of my head. I was freaking out that I had a tumor or something because they were horrible and out of nowhere. Then I realized they started when I started taking Yaz, so I switched to a different pill and they stopped.
Yaz should work. That's the one with only 4 inactive pills, right? I do believe breakthrough is still common, especially in the first month you skip.
tbh, when I was on the pill, I only attempted skipping once. It just never mattered to me as my period basically doesn't affect my life, especially when it was as light as on the pill.
As long as you have a recent Pap on file, getting another type of pill shouldn't be a problem. A Pap isn't medically indicated for pills, anyway. Things like your age, smoking, and bp are what matter, not the cells on your cervix.
I looked up the dosing in yaz, and it's very low-dose at 20mcg estradiol. Regular low dose is 30-35. Others are up to 50. So, that could be the problem. The difference between yaz/yasmin and other pills is that the progesterone component is derived differently. I don't know how that affects break throughs.
When's your trip?
I seem to remember it taking my body at least two cycles to pick up on the hint that I didn't want a period. I was on Estrostep and just skipped the placebos. I figured I'd just go on Seasonale and that was the worst...I had breakthrough bleeding that eventually just turned into a period. I gave up on it.
I was on seasonique for 2 years (suppose to be period every 3 months) but I would end up bleeding the entire first 2 months and then the 3rd I would only bleed when I was suppose to. effing sucked.
ETA: It also caused Migraines and I was a walking stroke waiting to happen. So I don't have good Pill advice.
I've never been able to skip as the Pill made me spot all.the.time.
I have two months. So, maybe I will just screw my periods up enough.
I was also on Yaz an really liked it.
Yaz actually stopped my period or made it really light after being on it for a few months.
Ive been on it for 6 months. I like it. They do seem lighter.
