Blister help

I'm fairly new to running and yesterday I got two wicked blisters on the back of each heel.

Any tips for avoiding them? My shoes fit great and I've been exercising/running in them for the past 4 months so I'm pretty sure that's not the problem. I'm wearing regular cotton socks, should I look into different socks?

Any tips would be helpful. I'm in agony whenever I try to walk with shoes on.

Re: Blister help

  • Make sure your shoes fit. You may need new shoes. Go to your local running store and get fit for them. Ditch the cotton socks. Cotton retains moisture and can cause friction. Friction=blisters. Get some wicking socks. You may need to try a couple of different kinds of socks to find ones that work for you.

Body Glide can also help reduce the friction and prevent blisters.

Thanks. I'll go to the running store tomorrow. I just got my shoes from there a few months ago, but I've lost 15lbs since then, who knows, maybe my feet shrunk a bit.

I didn't know that about the socks.

  • band-aid makes an AWESOME blister bandage. it's in the first aid aisle, not cheap but they work perfectly. I was able to keep running through a giant, horrible, no-good blister, with no pain or interruption. Love them. I now keep a pack in my car, just in case I need one.

  • I used to get the worst blisters when I started running and was introduced to these

They're a double layer running sock which helps reduce friction. They're expensive but have been worth it to me.
