Cleaning Hardwood Floors

Hi!  I have hardwood floors throughout my house and I am having trouble getting them as clean as I want!!  I have been using a cleaner for hardwood floors, but it dries streaky - even if I mop, then dry the entire floor with a towel.  The hardwood is very shiny to begin with - like there is lots of sealer or shellac on top if that makes sense.  So since the cleaner isn't exactly touching any real wood, do you think I would be better off using a different floor cleaner - like one for laminate or ceramic?

Any advice or product rec's would be appreciated!

  • I use murphy's oil soap on my floors.. It works wonders on wood floors as well as other surfaces so that may be a good option to try.

  • It sounds like I have the same floors you have.  The individual planks were laid, but there were prefinished.

I just cleaned and used a little dawn and water, on my hands and knees, and a rinse cloth and a dry cloth if I needed it.

    They look very clean.

I have DURA-LUSTER for cleaning residential hardwood floors with a urethane finish.  Not crazy about it, but probably the best.  I'm just about out so that's why I didn't use it.

I heard WD40 puts a shine back on, since it is made of fishoil.  I know DH uses wd40 on stubborn marks.

This! I use Murphy's Oil on all trim and hardwoods. I should really do it more often now that I think of it.
