Racing fuel when pregnant

Maybe a stupid question?? I'm training for my 2nd 1/2 marathon. The first one I did without ever using any Gu/chomps/etc. However, after reading several articles about them, I think it would be  helpful to use them this go around.

I'm just now getting to longer runs (8+miles) where I think distance/time wise they would be beneficial.

I was going to get a few to try out over the next few long runs to see what I liked and worked with me. However, I'm pregnant. Are they ok to take when pregnant? are there some that are better than others?

Re: Racing fuel when pregnant

  • I've been using Gu and Clif Shot Bloks throughout my pregnancy as fuel.  Last Saturday I ran 15 miles and used Mike & Ike's as my fuel. LOL!  Hey, they did the job.

  • I would look for ones without caffeine.

  • I have been using GU when needed (usually before a morning workout when I don't have time to eat).  I do use GU that have caffeine in them, but I only have one and I don't drink coffee and drink very limited amounts of caffeine as is so I am nowhere near the recommended max daily amount.
