Thinking about starting etsy shop

Hey ladies- I need your opinions! I made a lot of DIY things for my wedding, and am considering starting an etsy shop but need to know if people would buy what I make.  For now, I would only look into selling my chair signs, and maybe a custom card box, but I am looking to get a cricut machine, and just got a sewing machine so am learning to sew as well...so the possibilities are endless!

Here is what I made: http://pinterest.com/pin/53972895504248474/ (chair signs) and here is an image of the cardbox:

For the cardbox, I would send the buyer a questionnaire allowing me to get to know them better so it would be personalized even beyond the pictures they provided.

Please let me know your honest thoughts!

Thank you!!

Jessica

Re: Thinking about starting etsy shop

  • Having an etsy store is like a full-time job. You have to post stuff daily to be bumped to the top of the listings, you have to promote your store, etc. I had one and let it go because it was too much work on top of doing local stuff, plus my day job.

I know there are a few girls who post here that have successful etsy stores, but you're probably better going to the etsy forums to ask for advice about it, since you're not supposed to promote your store here anyways.

  • Thanks so much! I know it's a lot of work, but it's something I've always been interested in doing so just wanted to get opinions on what people are looking for or would be interested in buying.

Nothing to promote yet, but I know not to do that on here :)

  • Jennifer Priest is having an etsy class via MyCreativeClassroom, she has details on her blog http://www.hydrangeahippo.com/ i think the class starts 3/27

  • Nice how you post this on both the knot and the nest. As PP in the knot said your card box needs work. Personally I wouldn't order a box like that because I make one that is way better. I can't look at your chair signs because I'm at work and pinterest is blocked. Etsy is practically a full time job and unless you make your things look more professional I personally wouldn't do it. • Love your chair signs. Etsy is not a full time thing like everyone is saying. I have an etsy store and am happy with the amount of sales I get. But I do it as a fun side thing and not trying to make it a job. I think your signs would do very well on etsy. Not so sure about the card boxes though.
