Connection time in Houston
DH is going on a guys trip in July, found the perfect flight for him from IAD to Grand Junction but theres a connection in houston with only 39 mins....is that OK? Seems super tight to me but its all on United
Re: Connection time in Houston
Our wedding on Wilson Island!
I wouldn't risk that. Quite often they close the flight 10-15 minutes before departure, so even if he doesn't have to switch terminals, he really only has 25-30 minutes to make the connection, so if anything goes wrong there's a good chance he'll miss it. And there are a lot of trivial things that can cause a 10-20 minute delay!
If there are no other options, you could go ahead and book it, but have a backup plan. I would suggest printing out the details of all of the onward flights (if any) that day, so that he has some idea of what his options are. And will it be okay if he can't fly out of Houston until the next day?
That's awfully tight.
Plus, despite the merger, Houston may still have wing that's traditionally been United (what I'm guessing he'll fly in on) and a wing that's traditionally Continental. Which could mean a longer dash.
And that's assuming the IAD flight is on time.
If there's another flight that's reasonable with a longer layover I'd take that instead.
I personally wouldn't risk it, I try to never book a flight with less than an hour layover, it just makes me nervous.
We had a short layover in Cincinnati once (under an hour) and our first plane arrived late, plus we were in the way back of the plane, so it took forever to get off, then our connecting flight was in a different terminal. We were literally running through the airport a la Home Alone. Then we get to the gate, sweaty and panting, just to find out that our next flight was delayed
Which in the end was good of course, since we didn't miss it, but we would've totally missed it had it not been delayed. We never stopped to check the flight board b/c we were running to make the plane!
