Re: s/o poll : boots with dresses

  • Cowboy boots with cotton sundresses, yes.

Tall boots with sweater dresses (or their ilk), yes.

Black hoof-looking booties with skintight dresses, no.

    This is my siggy.

    Ditto this.

There's a woman at work who wears skin-tight poly blend dresses and black hoof booties every.single.day. Regardless of season. She looks ridiculous.

  • You know, I don't like booties in general. I am reminded that I must be in a very small minority every time I leave the house. I just feel like boots should be boots and non-boots should be non-boots and there is no need for anything in between.

  • Black hoof booties are NEVER okay.

  • I bought a pair of bronze-colored booties at Ross last year.  They were $15.  I've worn them twice - both times with pants.

I really don't know what I was thinking.

  • I'm not a fan of booties. I don't like the name either.

I hear you, I bought grey suede booties YEARS ago and I've worn them once or twice with skinny jeans. Every time I put on an outfit and think "maybe the booties", I end up realizing some other pair of shoes is eminently more appropriate. Yet I refuse to get rid of them.

  • There are specific boots that go with specific dresses.

Booties are awful and no one should ever wear them with a dress.

I like wearing boots with dresses or skirts because I'm a particular dead fish shade of pale and nylons are a PITA.

  • OK you guys, now I'm scared.  I wear boots and dresses all the time.

    These boots:

And a wrap dress like this:

    Is this terrible?

  • Only if by terrible you mean adorable. Because that's adorable.

  • No, Katie. Not terrible. Perfectly appropriate.

Right. It's all about which dress, which boot, and how they're styled.

  • You all make me sad.  But I never claimed to be "trendy".  I just really really don't like it.  I'll probably start to like it just as soon as it goes out of style.

  • If anyone cares MY opinion on cowboy boots and dresses:

I am born and raised "Texan". I go to plenty of events that are western/country... I wear my cowboy boots at least 4 days a week but I do not will not wear them with a dress.

First of - to me it just looks trashy. Maybe I just think the girls who do that are trashy. The only time it doesn't bother me is when a couple of particular older woman I know from the desert wear them with long broom style skirts.

Secondly and MOST importantly. If its warm enough for me to be wearing a sundress - you can bet your a$$ I'm in flip flops or sandals because its too damn hot to be wearing socks and leather calf high shoes.

  • o and 3rd. If you do wear footie type socks or push down the tube socks so they don't peek out of your boot - you run a pretty good risk of having your boot rub your calf raw.

  • IF you are tall, young and skinny then yes.  Otherwise, no.
  • I'm not a fan.

I don't like bootie boots or even bootie-heel type things.   My preference is as much leg as possible, for a longer/leaner look.   With fany dresses I wear strappy heals.  With work clothes/dresses I wear peep-toe or other pumps, and with summery dresses I wear sandals or wedges.

I actually don't wear boots too often.   Although, if I were thinner, I'd totally wear the boots over skinny jeans look.

  • Can I just add that boots are amazing in the winter because they block the wind. They are so much warmer than pants or jeans or tights by themselves.
