Face Wash

When I was pregnant my face looked like a 14 year old boy.  Once I had Parker and while I was nursing I finally had the "glowing" look.  ever since I have quite nursing my face has been breaking out constantly, mostly on my chin.  I have never had an acne problem before and it sucks.  I have tried many different over-the-counter products, but nothing seems to be working.  I used Biore before and it worked fine, but now it isn't.

What face wash and routine do you all use?  I shower at night so that is when I wash my face.  I don't re-wash it in the morning.

Re: Face Wash

  • I would definitely re-wash in the mornings as well.   I find that I get quite oily over night and just that natural oil from your skin sitting on your face then for the entire day can cause break outs.

I switched to the Clinique 3 step system when I was pregnant because you aren't supposed to use acne products while pregnant (so "they" say).   It is expensive to start, but the products lasted me almost a whole year.

I wash my face in the shower in the morning with the bar cleanser, then use the toner and moisturizer. At night I just wash my face at the sink with the liquid cleanser same deal with the toner and moisturizer.  If i'm feeling quite oily I don't moisturize at night though.

  • I've always had acne problems, even some rx stuff didn't always help. Now pregnant it's even worse and the bacne is insane. I've used the Clinique 3 step system before with good results. I'm now using a cleanser I got from Bath and Body Works, C.O. Bigelow vitamin boost gel cleanser or something like that, it's number 1671. It's working okay so far, I've only been using it since Thursday night, so not enough time to see if it's really making a huge difference. I miss my prescription pills and topicals, but nothing worked better than Spiro and BCP along with some topical stuff for my super resistant cystic acne. It sucks and being in my late 20s with acne sucks even more. Hope you find something that helps!

  • I recently stopped re-washing my face in the morning and feel that my skin looks so much better than before (although I am fortunate to not have terrible acne problems, but I would get the occassional minor break out). I have been using Burt's Bees Soap Bark and Chamomile Deep cleansing cream. I switched to this because I wanted a more natural product. I LOVE it (again, I don't have many skin issues, though). I also use an exfoliating scrub once or twice a week that's made from oatmeal and almonds.

I've also heard great things about the Oil cleanse method, I have yet to try it but I think Maria did recently, could be another thing to look into.

  • I 100% advocate the oil cleansing method. When on bcp my skin was fine, but now I have an IUD so it was a problem -- I've noticed a HUGE improvement with the OCM.

    I use 50/50 castor/olive oil.

That must be my problem them.  Darn IUD!

Is there a blog or something that talks about this method?

I hadn't even though to associate my acne with the IUD. DUH!!!!

I think for me its more the lack of bcp rather the addition of the IUD. The bcp specifically help with clearning skin, however the hormones in the IUD are localized and therefore have no affect on my skin.

No I agree. I was on NuvaRing before, and even that low-dose of hormones was altering my mood too much, but must have been doing great things for my skin. I've been having trouble with acne ever since I switched.

  • Cole - if you try the oil rub let me know.  I'm going to try it soon and I will let you know if it works for me!

  • I swear by Philosophy's Purity cleanser, and once a week I use their microdelivery peel.  My skin is so soft after I do that treatment!

I moisturize with hope in a jar.

  • I've gotten  into a fairly good routine now, kick-started by the 8 week breakout on my cheek that is just now starting to fade.  >:(

I am trying all kinds of different face washes.  None of them seem to do any better than the rest.  I've done Cetaphil, Neutrogena Natural (which smelled nice), and now I'm just using the regular orange Neutrogena.

I wash it in the shower.  Then put on any blemish corrector.  After that has been absorbed (like when I'm done drying my hair), I put on moisturizer.  Honestly this has been the best thing I've ever done because skin doesn't get nearly as oily as it used to.  I guess because it's not as dry and it doesn't have to over-produce oil to make up for it.  So strange.  But, yes, oil-free moisturizer. If I wear makeup during the day, I take it off with a face cleaning pad as soon as I get home.  And I'm lazy and don't want to re-wash my face before bed, so I just use another cleaning/acne pad before I go to bed.

Another thing that helps me is changing my pillow-case every 3-4 days.

  • I used proactive for a long time with good results. Now, not so much. I've found that OXY clinical system works very well for me.
