How do you feel about bagpipes for music at a wedding ceremony? Not a themed wedding or anything like that.
[Poll]
Re: Bagpipes (clicky poll)
My sister did this!!! It was freakin' awesome
They play outside (in full garb) while the guests arrived and when she walked down the aisle. They also played a few songs at the reception.
People still comment on it and it was 10 yrs ago.
I wish we could have done it but, DH & I paid for our own wedding and my parents paid for hers. (no I'm not still pissed about that, lol)
Nothing says joy and love like the skurl of a bagpipe.
(That's a deliberate misquote of "Nothing says despair like the skurl of a bagpipe," in case you're not enough of a Frasier fan to recognize it.)
I'm gonna SS this one.
Cool if the groom and/or bride are Scottish and plan to dress in traditional attire. Even then, the bagpipes should be used sparingly.
Otherwise, nahhhhh.
Lutes are acceptable in all situations, however.
I love bagpipes.
A good bagpipe player knows how to play without it sounding brassy and obnoxious.
Thanks for the thoughts. As I'm sure you can all guess - we are considering this for our music for the ceremony.
Bagpipes are seriously cool.
Bagpipes are outside instruments.
The the confined space of a church or hall, bagpipes are loud and annoying. If you have the bagpiper playing outside the church and have the music floating in the windows - perfection.
It's tradition at my college to play bagpipes at graduation. When they started playing the day I walked, everyone got SO excited and it just reminds me of happy, awesome times.
Bagpipes are great.
I think bagpipes COULD be cool, but it has to be well done. Song selection is very important.
Also, if neither of you is Scottish and there won't be anything that ties the bagpipes in, then I vote no. There needs to be some "reason" to have them, for me anyway.
But hey guess what? It's YOUR wedding, so do whateva makes you happy!!!!
This. Otherwise I don't get why bagpipes would be your instrument of choice. My last name is Scottish/Welsh and I don't even think I would consider it for my own wedding.
Unless you hire In Extremo, it's going to get boring really fast.
