First Class Upgrades on United

Does anyone know United's policy on offering first class upgrades for tickets bought through Expedia?  My H would love to fly first class from LAX to Kauai but I have a feeling since its a discounted fare through Expedia we won't be eligible?

 Thanks!

Re: First Class Upgrades on United

  • Depends on the type of upgrade you want.  Some are limited based on ticket type, others aren't.  That it's from expedia doesn't change the code necessarily.  A discounted ticket bought from united's site directly may still be a non-upgradeable fare.

  • Yeah you want to know the fare class. There should be a letter associated with you ticket, like M or B. That letter determines (with most airlines) your eligibility for things like miles accrual and upgrades.

  • Have you checked your reservation on United.com? If you use your record locator and view your reservation on the website, you'll be able to see your choices for upgrading. Sometimes you'll see a flat out rate, other times, you can only use miles for your upgrade. I fly United almost every week and there are times when I'll get an notice to upgrade with money for only one leg of my flight. Other times, it's both. Sometimes, I don't get it at all and only have a miles option. Like pp said, it depends on your fare class.
