As if Penny didn't have enough problems...

Went back to the vet today to do one more urinalysis and some x-rays just to be positive that we didn't miss anything in diagnosing her. Her blood sugar was high, so they're going to test the cat equivalent of an A1C to see if it was a fluke or if her blood sugar has been high for a while. It didn't come back high on her last urinalysis, which was done in September.

Basically, this means she might be diabetic. Which irrationally pisses me off because, Jesus H. Christ my cat needs a BREAK.

We should get the test results back tomorrow. Blah.

Re: As if Penny didn't have enough problems...

  • Aw poor Penny! Hopefully it was a fluke! Keep us updated Smile
  • Just a though - and I know she's had past urinary problems, but wouldn't being diabetic cause some urinary problems? So, maybe if they can diagnose this is might help some?

She has interstitial cystitis, so while diabetes can cause urinary issues, that's not what's causing hers. It might be making it worse, but even if she's diabetic now, she still has interstitial cystitis. If that makes sense. She's had urinary problems for two years now, and if she is diabetic, it's recently developed. She's had numerous work ups over the past couple of years, and this is the first time her blood sugar has been high.

    Poor kitty Sad

It least if it is diabetes and you do catch it early enough it will hopefully prevent more issues later.

  • Ugh. Fingers crossed it's not a new issue for her!
