So I am one of those obnoxous people who goes to movies after reading the book spending the whole time comparing the two, and being all "that didnt happen like that in the book" I mean, I mostly do it to H, and if he had just read the book, I wouldn't have to point out the differences (lol)
****Maybe spoilers below, but they are from the commercials really****
Watching the Hunger Games trailer (yay!!!) and they show this part with Katniss giving Prim the mockingjay pin, saying she got her something today, and if Prim has it nothing bad can happen. Umm is it just me, or THATS NOT WHAT HAPPENED in the book. Like at all, that's not how the pin came about. I hate it when they change parts of the plot much more than if they just leave something out. Obviously the movie hasn't come out, and I am bi_t_ching about something I dont really know for sure, but I thought the story behind the pin was somewhat significant in the books, like not life changing, but still important enough to keep intact.
I was reading blogs (ding ding dorky ding) and people are speculating that they might not be including Madge in the movie, which would really make me sad.
Over-analyzing, book-memorizing pout. hmph

Re: and its already beginning
Yeah, I thought that was weird too.
I think they condensed the beginning and simplified it by taking Madge out. She wasn't particularly important in any of the books, I don't think it will make a big difference who Katniss gets the mockingjay pin from.
67/200
I mean, I think of the minor characters she's fairly important as is the significance of the pin and where it came from. I mean, Madge is like Katniss' only friend outside gale (before the games and peeta) and she goes to see her off to the games, plus they maintain that relationship in the next book. Katniss was at Madge's house when she overheard about the revolts and used the excuse she was looking for Madge. Plus, her aunt was in the games with Haymitch, and his remorse over her is a piece of why he's an alcoholic (as well as all the other kids who died that he mentored). I think Madge and in turn her aunt (who owned the pin) giving historical context to the pin and the overall symbolism of the mockingjay. I'm sure they'll have some other story, but by changing how she got the pin they are changing several key parts to the plot, IMO.
**cough** not that I'm over-analyzing fictional story lines or anything **cough**

Ha! I thought the same thing last night when I was watching the trailers.
Interesting that they chose that scene as one of the previews. Maybe so the viewer isn't caught off guard, like "hey this isn't at all what happened in the book so try to get over it before you come watch the movie and then complain about how it's not what really happened" lol
This is exactly why they shouldn't have changed it. It sets the history and continues it in the next books. It is part of the entire revolution plot.
I completely agree with you both!
I'm doing the finger eye to eye thing with you right now.
