DH freaked me out this morning...

He got called into work at some time around 1 or 1:30 am, I think (i was basically asleep!).  I assume he won't be back.

I wake up around 5:30 or so.  I look at my phone and see an email about another break-in in our neighborhood.  It was actually a car, but still - it happened last night.  And houses have been broken into recently.

I get up, go take a shower, and when I come out - I see a man in our bed!!!  It took only a split second to realize it was DH - but the timing of this could have NOT been worse!!

He had gotten home about 5 and was out in the living room waiting for me to wake up.  But still...

  • I hate that!! Don't they know they need to give up some sort of warning when they are trying to sneak up on us?
I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns
  • I could only imagine how you freaked out!  Maybe tell him that the next time he should call ahead, irregardless of the time so you don't get nervous. :)

  • He's so lucky he didn't get hit in the face with a baseball bat.

He'll often text.  He was actually trying to be considerate, though.  Sometimes, when I'm woken up in the middle of the night, I have a REALLY hard time falling back to sleep.  Just last week, I had 2 nights of being awake from 2:30 - 4:30, or the next night, I was just up from 2:30 on...

So I think he was trying to be as unobtrusive as possible, not being sure if I had been able to go back to sleep when he got called in at 1.  .

AND he came home simply to help out w/ DS.  So I can't fault him for that. :)  He could have just stayed at work and slept.

  • H did this the other day. He was working late and I was in the shower. I came out and he was in the bedroom, with only the tiny bedside light on. Just yell "Honey I'm home" or something, geeze.

  • There's something so vulnerable about being in the shower and being surprised, or thinking someone is in your bedroom, kwim? It's way creepier than say, the living room.

MH does this too though - comes home and will be hanging out downstairs when he knows I'm up in the shower and he doesn't yell up to me or anything. So I get out of the shower and then I hear noises in the kitchen and I'm debating whether I should crawl out my bedroom window onto the roof or confront the perp with the hammer H keeps under the bed and then I realize it's H and he's making me dinner and I probably shouldn't hit him on the head with a hammer. Then I creep back upstairs quietly and dry myself off and put on clothes and put the hammer back in its spot and go say hi to H and pretend that I'm not a crazy loon who thinks every sound is a killer coming for me.

This will be the moment H regrets having so many guns in the house.

  • Ya he would have been lucky to not have his face smashed in.

Fi got into the habit that if he heard me taking a shower he would come in and say hi to me so I wouldn't think it was some crazy mass murderer in the apartment. I think the change had something to do with me getting out of the shower and him greeting me at the bedroom door and then i would scream bloody murder because he scared the crap out of me.

  • I would have shrieked like a little girl.

When I lived alone, I slept with a hammer under my pillow.   I felt like that'd be a handy weapon if I was ever being attacked.   But I repeatedly warned DH to never EVER let himself in to surprise me, even though he had a key to my place.

  • Nothing like an unexpected man in your bed to get the old adrenaline going.

  • Before I got to the end of your post, I thought you were going to say that you thought your DH was the one breaking into people's cars! LOL
