I'm having trouble potty training my Yorkie
We got him from a breeder and he was already 7 months old. I am worried that because while at the breeders they didn't potty train and he was just kept in a pen that he won't get over this. He is almost 3 pounds and we use puppy pads. We even bought the spray stuff that is supposed to make him go there. I just can't stop him from going on the kitchen floor. Anyone that may know what to do please help. I love him to death but I am reaching my end with cleaning up continous pee.
Re: I'm having trouble potty training my Yorkie
Ditch the pee pads, they're probably confusing him. He doesn't understand that it's ok to pee indoors on the pads, but not on the kitchen floor.
Are you crate-training him?

Have you tried the Patricia McConnel book? She's pretty much my guru.

He's probably still confused. Dogs don't generalize well. So, if you pee-pad-trained him in one home, that training will not "transfer" to the new home.
I would get rid of the puppy pads. They can be confusing, and even if he was using them consistently in the old house, what happens if you take him to visit someone (friend/family member)? As PP said, dogs don't generalize very well, so it's likely he would have accidents. I'm also just not a fan of having my dog potty in the house at all, whether on a pad or not.
I would definitely crate train him. It helps immensely with housebreaking and provides a safe, comfy space for your dog. You don't have to crate him for his whole life or anything, but it's a great way to ensure his safety until you know you can trust him not to chew, potty in the house, etc. and when you travel.
If you want to ditch the puppy pads and housebreak him, the key is to take him out very, very often (like every 30 minutes and after he eats, wakes up, plays, etc.) and praise him like crazy when he potties outside. Walk him around on a leash to get things moving and to keep him from getting distracted. If you take him out and he doesn't potty, come inside and crate him for 30 minutes. Then take him out again. Again, if he doesn't potty, he goes back in the crate and try again 30 minutes later. If he potties, praise/reward and give him play time or other fun stuff. GL!
