Okay, so Brett and I have decided to forego our family vacation this summer and take a babymoon instead. We're going to use our tax refund and are pretty much open to anything.... which means we've been super indecisive.
I found a great deal today on an all-inclusive resort in Dominican Republic. Here's my question, for the moms and moms-to-be. Would you be nervous traveling out of the country while pregnant? I'll be 25/26 weeks at the time we are looking at going.
Thoughts?
Re: pregnant travel question
I'm in a similar predicament. T is going to Europe in a few weeks and wants me to tag along and then he'd take some extra time and we'd explore. I really want to go since last year we only got to see a fraction of Germany and this year we'd be able to spend more time and see some of France as well. But I am so nervous to go out of the country and on such a long flight and deal with the food. I have to call my doctor and ask what their policy on international travel is. On one hand I'm all for going, on the other I am scared out of my mind if something were to happen or just being so far away from home and without my usual comforts.
I guess the biggest thing is just check with your doctor and see what they think and what their recommendations are, and of course any restrictions if they okay it.

My Blog
I travelled a bit while pregnant. San Francisco very early on, then Europe at about 13 weeks and then we went to Hawaii when I was 28/29 weeks.
I personally would be a bit hesitant about going to "less developed" countries in case there was some medical issue. That is why we chose to go to Hawaii for our Babymoon and not to Mexico, Dominican, etc. I knew that if I needed it, I would get "North American" health care - if that makes any sense.
That said, I never needed any medical attention while I was away.
See what your doctor says, and if you feel comfortable begin able to get the care you would need, should you need it, I say go!
This is mostly what I'm worried about (and what I woke up in the middle of the night worrying about last night). Maybe I should take that as a sign!! We're also looking at Puerto Rico, and I think I would feel better there even just being a US Territory, if that makes sense.
We travel quite frequently, and I'm not worried to go places within the U.S., we have plans to go a few places in the coming months, a couple will just be road trips, and some plane trips. We're planning on flying to SoFl in June for my HS reunion, to see my family, and have my baby shower. I'll be about 30-31 weeks. I am not worried about going at all at that time, but I think because I know it's a domestic trip. I'll be on a probably direct 2 hr flight, and I'll be in a familiar place and have plenty of access to regular healthcare. It's the international stuff I'm more worried about, just because I'm not sure how foreign countries handle things.
FWIW, I called my doctor's office today to ask about going to Europe, and they okayed it no problem. They told I'm free to go since I'm having a complication-free pregnancy so far, and gave me the usual tips for travel on long flights, drink lots of water, get up every hour, try to get an ailse seat, etc. They'll also give me a note at my next appointment for the airline just in case.
I was going to say to just make sure you are walking enough on the plane, drink nots of water and don't eat too much salt. Find out what hospitals are near where you are traveling. That way you know where they are and even though you mosty likely won't need them it might make you feel better. Isn't your husband in the military? Will he be visiting a base there? I'm sure their medical assistance is just as good as ours. People have lots of babies their too ??
My friend had her baby in TIWAN! HUGE language barrier and you know what? She ended up loving it. And it was a fraction of the cost. I'm talking 3 days in the hospital and she paid about $30 bucks. She and the baby were perfectly fine.
