DC Ladies

Jay, myself and our bff's are going to be in DC March 31st-April 3rd! It's just a long weekend but I'm excited to get out of dodge and have some fun.

So, we're looking for suggestions of where to eat, bars to drink in and things to do while there. Also, I'd love to find some time to meet up with you ladies if you had availability Big Smile

Re: DC Ladies

  • YAY!!!!!!

You need to go to the WWII Memorial, it is my fave, really gorgeous.  If it stays warm, you'll probably miss the cherry blossoms, but if not, obv you have to go around the Tidal Basin and look at them.

I also really enjoyed the Newseum and the American History Museum (Julia Child's kitchen recreated!!!).

Where to eat: Depends on what you like and where you're staying.  You can PM/FB/email me if you don't want to post the specific region of the city/ area.

Also depends on budget- what do you want to spend?  1 really good meal?  A bunch of medium priced restaurants?

I am free all of the weekend days- that Monday (April 2) is a really big deal day at my work so I am probably not available that day, but could possibly hang out April 3 too.

The cherry blossoms are part of the reason we thought it would be a good time to go, plus bff is on spring break that week, but if we miss them we miss them.

This is super last minute, we don't have a hotel booked yet (recommendations on areas to stay in? ) and we're driving there so location of restaurants and things is not an issue since we can drive wherever.

I would say we're looking at mostly medium priced restaurants but would take a recommendation for one really good, pricey meal as well. We're generally not picky eaters, but my bff doesn't eat seafood; that is really the only issue we would have in restaurant choice.

When we have some more definite plans I'll try and figure out when I can ditch the rest of them and visit with you guys. I'm thinking maybe lunch on Saturday afternoon? Jay is going to want to nap when we get there (he'll likely be the one who drives us there straight through Friday night into Saturday morning) and I'm sure the bff's wouldn't mind a couple hours to do something on their own so I could meet up with Niner friends!

If you're going on budget friendly, stay in Crystal City.  You're on top of a metro and just 5 min from DC.  It is much, much more affordable than staying in the city.

If you want to stay in the city, and don't mind price, stay in a Kimpton hotel.  Hotel Palomar is in DuPont, so it is center of the city (but, not close to monuments, those are on the very edge of town, and staying here will require a train line change) http://www.hotelpalomar-dc.com/

Again, a Kimpton that may be more convenient for site seeing would be Hotel Monaco- it is amazing inside, and on Penn Quarter, so the metro stop would be Navy Memorial/ Archives which is Blue/Yellow lines, and blue will take you to the monuments.  http://www.kimptonhotels.com/boutique-hotel/hotel-monaco-washington-dc/

If you go for a nice meal, the must have right now in DC is Graffiato.  It is from Mike Isabella, and they are Italian-Mediterranean style cuisine.  I would say this is mid-to expensively priced for their tastings.

If you want really really amazing but also highly pricy, Citronelle is your spot.

Other good restaurants: Jaleo (or anything by Jose Andreas really), La Tasca (if you like tapas- Jaleo is also tapas, it is just one thing DC does really well),  Oyamel (this is adventurous Mexican cuisine- think, crickets on the menu), Brasserie Beck (american, upscale pub), Blue Duck Tavern (again, american, upscale), Founding Farmers (very nice, locally sourced), Proof (a little bit of everything, heaven in your mouth, but also a little bit expensive).

If I were you and picking, I'd try to get into Proof, Graffiato and then do a more casual tapas (Jaleo and La Tasca) for your 3 dinners.

Lunching you can do wherever- most of these places serve lunch too- and also if you're on the Mall and want something different, the Native American History Museum has an interesting cafeteria.
