speaking of car seats...

When do I use a booster seat?  I'm all overwhelmed again.  Gah.  I hate baby gear shopping.

Gabby is in a convertible seat, forward facing now, but the seat only goes to 50lbs.  She's 29lbs.  Genna is still in her infant seat, she's 19lbs-20lbs (her seat goes to 22lbs).  I don't know if I should get an entirely new convertible for Gabby (one that goes to 65lbs) and use Gabby's current one for Genna... or buy a new convertible for Genna and just expect to buy a booster for Gabby when she outgrows her current convertible seat.

Halp!

  • I'm pretty sure that power point I just sent you spells it out.

  • lol cool.  I didn't look at it yet.
  • Thanks for the PP, BMW!  It did totally help me.  At least now I feel like I know what I should do.  I think we'll get a larger seat for Gabby, and pass hers to Genna and worry about whatever happens in the future, well, when it gets here.  ha.  Especially since we have a while before we have to worry about boosters anyway.
  • Good glad it helped!! What did you think of those inflatable booster seats they where advocating?? I have a hard time believing they are safe.

Yeah I was iffy on that, too.  I mean I get the point - that a booster is mainly to help align the child so the seat belt is positioned properly so this does do that job, but it's not something I would rely on for my main mode of transportation.  It would be perfect for vacations or trips where you can't bring the booster, but I wouldn't want to use it every day or for long trips.

  • We got a Britax for Ava and it goes to I think 55lbs but I looked up charts for weight and age and by the time Gabby hit's 50lbs she'll be in one of those small just little lap boosters if that even because she'd be like 8 years old haha

But so far I really like the Britax 55 and diapers.com runs sales on Britax quite a bit to get 20% off.

  • My pedi is of the mindset to use a convertible as long as possible. A lot of them are rated to 100 lbs and her kids are staying in them well past 30 lbs.

Audrey is only 28 lbs right now and we are not switching to a booster at 30 lbs. We will wait until 50 or 75 to switch to a booster.

  • I've heard great things about the Graco Nautilus 3 in 1, it's a forward facing carseat, a booster with harness, and then a regular booster. That might be a good intermediate seat to get for her for now :)
