What do you do when husband is out of town?

My DH is out of town for tonight which means I am sleeping by myself. (Oh I'll be lonely).

When your husband leaves and you have the house to yourself is there anything you take advantage of doing? Romance movies? Tv shows? Cleaning? Friends over?

Re: What do you do when husband is out of town?

  • My husband and I don't live together (He's in the military, and I'm going to school to get my doctorate) so it's almost as if I'm single. I watch TV, clean, look at blogs, play with the pups. Often I don't get out of my pajamas, lol.
  • Eat mac and cheese and let the dog sleep in the bed :) Oh and not watch Top Gear on BBC-America (why he regularly watches this show, I have no idea since he has zero interest in cars).

  • I save the shows he doesn't care for on the DVR to watch when he is gone.  I also save time making the bed when is gone overnightSmile.  He sleeps like a maniac, when it is just me all I have to do is get out of bed and smooth the covers.

    Ninth Anniversary

Before kids I use to love little breaks where I could be alone. I'd go out with friends, workout late, see movies that DH didn't like. One time I got Broadway tickets to a show I knew he'd hate. If I hate break from DH and the kids right now I'd probably go to a few lectures at the Y, watch a bunch of TV that he hates, read a book, and go to bed when I want vs. when we're both ready.

I miss DH when he is gone of course, but having some time alone was nice too. Now that I have kids I am very busy when DH travels and isn't here to help out. For his last business trip I had my mom come up because I was pregnant at the time and not 100% up for taking care of my toddler alone.

  • I watch trashy shows he doesn't watch (Kardashians), eat junk food (nachos) and go to bed earlier than normal so I can read more.

  • It rarely happens that I have the whole house to myself, but when I do, it's a real treat.  I light every candle in the house, put on some music, pour myself some wine and sing really badly, and the only one that can hear my is my poor dog.

No cleaning, no friends over, just pure, unabashed and blissful solitude.

This! During the summer DH is gone for weeks at a time and the house stays super tidy. I do whatever I want. But if its just an overnight deal it's more baby time with my boys. It used to be takeout with a chick flick and relaxation time.

  • I clean the house top-to-bottom and walk around blissfully knowing it will stay that way for more than 10 minutes. Wink

I then watch all the shows that I like that DH says "suck" and I order Chinese food, which he hates.  Stick out tongue

  • My husband is gone pretty regularly for work. He is usually gone every other night, with the exception of his days off. I usually catch up on shows, take a hot bath, look at blogs, and clean. I usually try to make a list of stuff to get done while he is gone. I love my husband to death, but I can usually get more done on the apartment and my projects when he isn't home. He can be a bit of a distraction.Big Smile

  • I usually order pizza (he and I have differing tastes regarding pizza, and usually end up going with his choice, so I take advantage of being alone to enjoy my own!).  Sometimes I invite friends over, or I'll spend some quality time with my parents.  It's also a good time to get some reading done.  As far as cleaning goes, I tend to like washing the kitchen floor when he's not around, as he sometimes forgets when it's drying and walks across to get to the refrigerator.
