Idol talk

So who did you/didn't you like last night?

Shannon bombed, Elise sucked, Ericka bored me.  Hollie, Skylar and Jessica nailed it big time.

I liked Jermaine and Colton for the boys.

Re: Idol talk

  • I definitely think Shannon is going home tonight.  I was hoping D'Andre would have a horrible performance, but his was still better than hers.  It's really unfortunate.

Colton and Jessica are my favorites.

  • Joshua Ledet "I Wish": He's good.  He's kind of boring, but that's not a bad thing.  He always nails it and doesn't really slip up, so he's got that.  He just doesn't "wow" me.

Elise Testone "I'm Your Baby Tonight": Better song choice than she'd originally chosen, but she kind of blew it.  I know she's a better singer than that, and hope she does better next week.

Jermaine Jones "Knocks Me Off My Feet": He doesn't do much for me.  He seems like such a nice guy though, so I'm in his corner.  He's kind of like a less exciting Joshua Ledet.  He always nails it, but it's never something to talk about the next day.

Erika Van Pelt "I Believe in You and Me": I want her to be better than she is, I think.  I like the husky quality of her voice, but she just doesn't go anywhere with it.

Colton Dixon "Lately": I don't know why I have such a crush on this man.  I don't think he's that great a singer, and he kind of reminds me of a Jonas brother...fairly talented but not amazing, but skates by on his looks and wholesomeness.  I didn't love this performance, but I predict he'll end up in the top 2 overall.  Chicks dig him.

Shannon Magrane "I Have Nothing": She did so well last night, and she was doing OK in this song until that one broken note (if you saw it, you know what I mean) and OMG.  The rest just fell apart.  It wasn't an epic meltdown, but it was pretty bad.  I wonder if she'll go home because of that disaster.

Deandre Brackensick "Master Blaster": This kid is weird.  His banter with Seacrest before his performance was actually pretty funny.  But the performance was weird and I hated it.  But I've never liked this kid.  I can't stand all the weird falsetto...I don't get it.

Skylar Laine "Where do Broken Hearts Go": I knew she was good when she killed "Stay With Me" last week.  I didn't think she'd kill a Whitney song, but she really did.  I think she has talent and performing abilities beyond her years.  I hope she goes far this season, because I can't stand a whole season of Deandre and Shannon.

Heejun Han "All in Love is Fair": Boring.  This guy is hilarious in life, in that awkward sort of way.  But his songs are always boring boring boring.  I'm sure he'll keep coasting on his personality, but it'll catch up with him eventually.

Hollie Cavanagh "All the Man That I Need": I love her.  I think she's my fave.  She is maybe a touch boring, but girl can sing.  I read last night that she lived in England til she was 11.  I guess that explains her bizarre accent...I could not figure it out for the life of me.

Jeremy Rosado "Ribbon in the Sky": Lame.  He really impressed when he "sang for his life" last week.  Where did that Jeremy go?  Last night's Jeremy lacked confidence and wasn't at all memorable.

Jessica Sanchez "I Will Always Love You": I think I'm the only one in the world who dislikes her.  She has a great voice, but her personality grates.

Phillip Phillips "Superstition": I don't get the PP love.  First of all, the name.  Second of all, I don't think his voice is that awesome.  People are talking about him like he's the new David Cook.  First of all, David Cook's voice is nearly unrivaled.  Second of all, David Cook did something with the songs he sang, unlike PP, who to quote Lyndsey Parker, "did what he does so very well, which means he pretty much turned "Superstition" into a Dave Matthews Band song."  Except she thinks it's awesome, and I think it's yawnworthy.

  • I told my H right away last week that it was too early to pull the Whitney card - there's not enough good singers to be able to do her songs justice in the first week of competition.  That being said, I thought the girls were phenomenal last night, with the exception of Shannon.  She definitely fell victim to singing a song that was too big for her.  The other girls did well though.  I even told H that I thought Jessica sang "I Will Always Love You" better than Jennifer Hudson did at the Oscars.

I think Shannon will be the bottom for girls.  As for the guys, I'm not sure who will be in the bottom - most of them were pretty underwhelming in my eyes (with the exception of Joshua, Colton, Jeremy, and Phillip) last night.  I'd probably say Jermaine or D-Andre.  I would hope the judges would keep Shannon over whichever guy is in the bottom - regardless of who it is.

    Anniversary

  • Jessica Sanchez was unbelievable.  She's not my favorite, but that was amazing. BUT, she really needs to stop the "OMG, I'm shaking and I cannot believe you are saying this about me," nonsense.

    Colton was my favorite guy.

I also like Holly, I liked her last year but she didn't make Top 24.

  • So far my favorite female is Hollie.  She keeps surprising me with her big voice.

Jessica did great last night, but for some reason I feel like she's going to get boring.

I like watching Colton and Phillip because they're different and better than the others but honestly, I don't think they're that great.  AI has had some great seasons with amazing male singers and performers, so I can't help but compare!

I don't get the Skylar, DeAndre, and Jermaine love.  They're just not my cup of tea.

ETA:  I forgot about Heejun!  I know a lot of people think he's odd (and he is), but I like him.  He's quirky, and I think his voice is beautiful.  I just hope he changes up his song choices instead of continuing to only do ballads.

Not a fan of his at all.  I don't think his performance was much last night and he just doesn't do it for me.  As for the name....I liked to say "CreightonFraker" better, imagining it coming out of Yosemite Sam's mouth while jumping up and down shooting his pistols.

This made me think of Thia Megia from last year.  Beautiful girl, amazing voice, boring as all hell.

Yes!  That's who I thought of also when I saw Jessica's first performance.

I don't think she will stick around long.  I also think she peaked too early in the competition by having a great performance last night.

  • I love Hollie too - she was my favorite among the ladies when they were choosing the finalists.

However for as annoying as she is, I wouldn't be surprised to see Skylar make the finals.  I love southern accents but there's just something about her, for some reason I have to mute the TV when she talks.
