I'm embarrassed to be a Virginian

The governor signed the mandatory ultrasound bill into law.

Because apparently women are too stoopid to realize what's in there.

"Well, hollleeee shiit, I thought there was a can of beans and a ShamWow in that there uterus.  But you're tellin me it's a fetus?  Well damn!"

This is my siggy.

Re: I'm embarrassed to be a Virginian

  • Given that this is Virginia and from what I've seen, the sex ed programs blow chunks, it would not surprise me if people didn't know wtf was up there.

It is shocking and horrifying how far we've regressed so quickly; I've lived here for four years and the religious agenda seems to be getting stronger all the time.

  • I think I would be just as embarrassed to be an Arizonian today. Check out PCE for the article. You;ll know it when you see it.

On the other hand, this made me laugh:

  • Well, I think it's better than living in Arizona right now with that sh!t they just passed.

It's beginning to be a sad state for women in this country.

    Seriously. WTF.

  • Yeah, at least you've got one up on Arizonians.

I just don't understand what the fvcck is going on.

  • Duuuuuuuuuuuuuude, WTF Arizona?  That shiit better be going to the courts to overturn it.

    This is my siggy.

    What the f00king f00k?!

  • I just read this and that article on PC&E and have been freaking the f out to DH for about 5 minutes.

What is wrong with this country!?  Why is any of this stuff anything that people think is their business!?  FFS, GET OUT OF EVERYONE ELSE'S LIFE.

If someone wants to have an abortion, it only affects them and their family.  If someone wants to take birth control, it only affects them and their family.  These are not things that the people passing laws even have the right to be interested in.

Seriously, I cannot express how insanely angry I am right now.  And also scared.

Ladies, welcome back to second class citizenship.  W.T.F.

  • Don't you think our lives would be much easier if we just recognize what they are trying to tell us?

We, as women, have no brains. We are incapable of making decisions. We are nothing more than baby factories.

May God forgive those of us with clogged gears.

    Yes

I think we should revisit this issue once we've solved the obesity epidemic, cured cancer, ended hunger and illiteracy, and figured out the social security mess. Then we can come back to telling women what they are and are not allowed to do with their uteri.

  • How the helll did that pass? It's a total violation of the Hippocratic Oath!

    Agreed.

    HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY EVERYONE!!

    lol

  • I hate these phrases, but...

I love that the far religious right is combating baybeeee murder with state-sanctioned rape.  It really lets me know where I stand in the eyes of organized religion (barefoot and PG in the kitchen).

It rankles me, and I mean RANKLES ME, that some old dudes with biased and narrow ideologies get to make my personal health decisions for me.  I'm tempted to run for office so I can start returning the favor.

This isn't freedom of religion.  It's forcing your ideology upon the masses.

    This is my siggy.
  • If I can't comprehend that there's a fetus in my ute and can't be trusted with information about my health, how could I possibly appreciate the consequences for my actions should I choose to, idk, firebomb something or strangle a hobo or.some sh*t?

Right? Let's focus on things that are actual problems.

  • It's no coincidence I high-tailed my happy azz out of VA after draining it of 17 years' worth of its fine public schooling. You can't retain an educated workforce with laws like these. I've heard of "two Americas" before, but never realized one of them would be Ameri-ghanistan under the American Taliban.

Move to the West Coast! It's not cold here.. we are kiding it at +8 right now! :) That's about 46 down there right?

I have nothing else to contribute to this post that hasn't already been said...

  • I lived there for a decade. I keep saying I miss it, I want to go home. I am officially a gypsy. I will never call Virginia my home again.

And PS! Virginia is for lovers! Asshat Virginians!

  • It took me several attempts before I really quit smoking years ago.

DH could always tell that I hadn't slipped up and started smoking again when by day two I was screaming about wanting to move out of this god forsaken land of hillbillies and a-holes and on to a civilized state / country / land.

Years ago, my brother's GF was considering abortion. She is a sweet lady, but never finished HS and is not very...well-read or exceptionally street smart either. When she went to the Dr., they did an ultrasound and she saw the baby on the screen. At the time, she was probably around 3 months along. She admitted to me years later that the ultrasound was what changed her mind. She honestly thought that what she was going to see would look a lot less....human, and it would be easier to get rid of. After she saw the tiny human being on the screen, she was no longer able to go through with her plans.

I have an eight year old niece today. And I am glad. She is loved by her parents, though life is not perfect. But whose is.

Take it however you want it, but there is one life that was saved. Her name is Aneta.
