Happy Women's Day!
March 8th is the "Festa della Donna" in Italy and is probably the only holiday I miss.
I remember when I was in school the boys in the class always put the traditional Mimosa bunches onto every girl's desk on March 8th. It was so nice!
The Mimosa trees bloom at this time, which adds to the day a special spring touch.
Is this day celebrated where you are?

I forgot it was women's day until a Russian man at the trade show I'm working at gave me a rose!
It is lightly celebrated in France as far as I know.
In Vietnam it was celebrated much more than here or in Canada. I used to get bouquets of flowers from my male boss and all the male staff.

In China, all the women in the office got half a day off. I found this counter-productive, because the guys were clearly a bit jealous, since there's no day that they got half off. I chose to work that afternoon, because it seemed weird and unfair to me.
Apparently the celebrate it a little in Brazil, and all the women at work got a chocolate. Much more reasonable to me.
I never hear it mentioned here, but since Scandinavia really is topping the charts in gender equality, that's not surprising.
Russia solves this problem by having "Men's Day" at the end of Feb. It's a national holiday just like Women's Day. Technically it's Defenders of the Motherland Day (or something like that), but since military service is compulsory for men it's the de facto man's day.
I loved International Women's Day in Russia. It's HUGE there. All the men you know - co-worker, boss, driver, door man, spouse - get you a gift; usually flowers or chocolate. It's a great day to be a lady.
