Weight Lifting - shoe recs

I just started New Rules of Lifting for Women and I dont like the old walking shoes I am wearing right now. Any suggestions?

Re: Weight Lifting - shoe recs

  • I will be keeping an eye on this.  I just googled around and found some reviews.  There's a new Reebok shoe out that is lighter weight than some of the other weight lifting shoes.

And it's purple, but I shouldn't just pick based on that :)

  • I wear the New Balance Minimus shoes for Crossfit and they are great for the weightlifting workouts. I think something like Chuck Taylors would also work - something with a flat bottom.

Same here.  You want something with a very flat sole and not a lot of cushion.  I really like my NB Minimuses.

  • Nike Frees are my shoe of choice for lifting.

A lot of lifters also wear old school Converse Chuck Taylors. The key is minimal cushioning.

  • I love my Vibrams. Going to such a low profile shoe has really helped my form since I'm more aware of where I'm putting my weight. My husband wears the new Reebok's & hardly wants to take them off.

  • I wear the NB minimus trails...love them!
  • For the record, I CrossFit in Vivo Barefoots and like them, but I'm looking at dedicated weightlifting shoes too. . .

  • Vibrams or Nike Frees.

  • I always use soccer training shoes. Not the ones with the cleats, obviously. I like Nike, but the Adidas are good, too.
  • The hubs lifts in these http://www.roguefitness.com/adidas-weightlifting-shoes.php and loves them. He can't stand lifting in anything else anymore. Our friend is now a competitive Oly lifter but used to CF and swears by these http://www.adidas.com/us/product/mens-weightlifting-adistar-weightlifting-shoes/83827. I'm not quite as aggressive with my lifting and love lifting in my inov8s or even more so in my Vibrams.
  • A LOT of people at my CrossFit box wear Inov8s - I will probably buy a pair soon, but I just bought new running shoes (asics gel nimbus 13) so I need to spread out my purchases. I bought the new balance minimus shoes, but I didn't like how they felt when they bent (like when you stand on your toes) so I returned them.
