The devastating news that I got Saturday was that I have been officially academically dismissed from school. That means a whole year and a half of stressing, time away from DS and money all down the drain. The reasoning is as follows:
April 2011 I started the math portion of my course work. You have to complete the math consecutively so one after another until all the math is completed for your degree requirements with a total of 3 with the 4th being statistics which can be taken later in the coursework. The first class I sailed through with flying colors. You need at least an 80 or higher to pass or you fail. The second I struggled which I always have when it comes to graphing. This placed me on academic probation which I was under the impression it was just for the following term (Not so much). I retook it the following term and passed, ok great. Then comes the third, I failed again because I just could not comprehend it. I retook it and passed just this past 2 weeks. I still got dismissed because my GPA dropped below standard. The reason being is just because I passed and replaced the class needed. It still kept the F's in the total grade in addition to the passed classes.
I'm in the process of appealing the dismissal and just sent off the appeal form with letters from my employer and proof that I'm a single parent doing the best I can. I'm praying that it gets appealed and that this is just another hurdle I have to overcome. I personally feel that just because I suck at graphing is not an indication that I can't lead a team in the corporate world.
Re: I think I'm ready to talk
I'm so sorry to hear that. I really hope they reverse their decision. Do you know if you are dismissed forever or for a certain time period?
I can't believe your school does not have a grade forgiveness policy, most schools I believe do. That's pretty unfair.
Good luck and try not to stress over it. Like you said, you were doing the best you could with everything that you had on your plate.
I'm so sorry to here this, jaks.
Hopefully the appeal board and our employer see just how amazing your are, and how hard your trying.
HUGE ::HUGS:: and positive vibes headed your way.

I agree. It could be that this school is online. I currently have a sister in her senior yr at a university about an hour away that is an actual brick and mortar. I've asked her if she's ever had to do a few things in which she has replied " oh I never had to do that". She is in the same field that I'm studying but I feel my classes are 100 times harder than hers.
This! I'm so sorry Jaks!! I really hope the appeal goes through so you can finish! I know back when I was getting my associates degree, I had to retake a class due to my grade and the new grade I'm pretty sure overrode the old one.
Lots of hugs!!!
It might be unfortunately. Would you consider going to another university? I currently attend a brick and mortar university that has online and videostream classes that I have had a great experience with. I could PM you the name.
It's quite hard especially needing an 80 % or higher. I have completed all the required except for statistics which I shouldn't have too much trouble with. It took a lot of nights of doing the practice problems over and over until I was doing it in my sleep for me to get it.
Seriously in what world does 79 percent equal fail???? That sucks. I hope you get it appealed.
well, this sucks. math is not my friend either.
good luck with the appeal!
what are you going to school for? are you almost done?
Sending hugs your way and keeping my fingers crossed that you win your appeal! Don't give up!!!
I don't know how your school works, but if you think you may fail again, it may be better to withdraw from the class than to take an F. A withdrawal won't wreck your GPA. Check out your school's rules.
Devry University. I have another yr and a half left.
Sorry, Jaksmom!! Hugs
coming your way! I am happy to hear though that they felt you had a really strong appeal! Please keep us updated. I know this isn't easy
