Not interested in sex

I started taking birth control pills in October 2010. I was on Loestrine [sp?] for a year, before I switched to Errin. I took Errin for three months, then I went off birth control completely because I was not happy with the side effects I had. With Loestrine I had the worst migraine headaches and auras. With Errin I had depression, weight gain, acne, and extreme anger issues.

Since going off of birth control I feel great! The only problem is... While I was on birth control, my sex drive totally decreased to pretty much nothing. I didn't even want to have sex on my wedding night. Before I went on birth control I enjoyed being touched, now I can't stand it.

I don't understand why my sex drive has not increased now that I have been off the pill for months. I know it makes my husband sad that I have to force myself to have sex with him. It makes me sad too. I want to want him like I used to, so there is some desire, but I don't know how to really make that desire known. I'm only 21. I shouldn't be having these kinds of problems and lack of desire. I've been married for just over a year, and I haven't had a desire since 2010.

I'm sorry if this post seems kind of nuts. I sometimes have a hard time expressing what I am trying to say.

Re: Not interested in sex

  • Not every patient is alike. Every body is different.

For some people, it'll take less time for the system to "go off the pill, for others longer.

I suggest a complete physical -- have your doc rule out thyroid problems and hormonal imbalances.

Are you taking other meds? Those too can cause a decrease in libido.

Your post is not nuts at all.  You've also described the problem pretty clearly.

See your doc and tell him what you've told us.

I don't think your H is sad -- concerned, yeah, but sad that you have to "force yourself to have sex", no.

Do something for yourself to feel better about you.:) Get a makeover -- rediscovering masturbation will also make you feel better about anything sexual as well as having sex.  GL.

    A.  This has nothing to do with OP's question.

    B.  You are so misinformed that it's sad.

  • Birth control can reek havoc on your body, even after going off of it. one way you can get yourself in the mood is to buy a toy and some lube and have some fun by yourself before he gets home... time it so by the time he gets home you're almost at the point of climax. To keep this "buzz" going, call him into the bedroom and have him take over for you with the toy.. he will get really amped with this act of spontaneity, and soon you can replace the toy with him. If your not comfortable with him "watching you" Put your clothes on, but keep the "thoughts" going in your head so you don't loose your focus, and jump him when he walks in the door.

As for birth control.. if your not ready for kids, get an IUD. You don't have to remember to take a pill everyday, or take out some stupid ring, there are next to no side affects except for some discomfort for about 12 hours..And you can get one that lasts for up to 8 years.
