And do you like it? What's your H's?

Re: Poll Stolen from ML: What's your birthstone?

  • Ruby. I love it. I have a lot of ruby jewelry.

I don't know H's. He's not really a jewelry guy. He doesn't even wear his wedding ring. (Which irks me to no end).

  • Mine is aquamarine and I love it. Its such a pretty color and I love how it looks.

E's is topaz and I think its pretty. I have a few topaz pieces of jewelry because it was my grandmother's birthstone as well.

  • Mine is blue topaz. I like it ok but don't really wear jewelry other than my wedding rungs. DH's is Ruby, he doesn't wear anything other than his wedding band.

  • Amethyst. I like it. I have a ring that was a great-great aunt's that had the same birth-date as me.

    His is ruby.

  • Mine is ruby. I like it alright. When I was little it was like everything I was given was red maybe because of my hair? Idk. I kind of lumped the red ruby birthstone in with everything else red in my life. I guess I haven't put much thought into it as adult.

I have know idea what H's birthstone is. I doubt he would know, although he surprises me sometimes

  • Mine is the peridot, I had a lot of stuff growing up that had it but own nothing with it now. It's an okay color. I think DH is a diamond?

  • Amethyst. I liked it when I was younger and would always buy the "amethyst and gold" Mickey and Minnie ring at Disney World. It would turn my finger green, but I bought it every year!

I'm not a huge colored gemstone fan at the moment.

    M's is garnet, I think.

  • My birthstone is peridot. I think it's ugly.  DH's is pearl, I believe.

  • Mine is peridot, I have a couple of peridot jewelry but don't really wear them much since I.usually don't wear jewelry. I also like diamonds a LOT better! Green has always been my favorite color though. H's is sapphire, I'm not even sure if he knows that.
  • Mine is emerald. I dont really wear anything with it, H's is pearl,  but he only wears his wedding band, no pearls for him! haha
  • Topaz.  I think the orange is ugly, but blue is ok I guess.  I prefer my sapphire wedding ring.  I think H's is turquoise.  I doubt he knows that, though.  Do people actually care what their birthstone is, as in, do they actually buy jewelry based on that?

  • Mine is diamond and H's is amethyst. I had always liked the idea of having a non-traditional wedding ring that combined my birthstone and my husband's, but once I got engaged to H I ditched that idea since I don't like purple/pink enough to wear it every day. H does want to buy me a diamond/amethyst ring for our five year wedding anniversary, though. And when we have babies I want some kind of jewelry with their birthstones. Not the "Mom" rings though with the different stones, I think those look kind of tacky.

I don't. The only piece of jewelry I have is a ring my H got me when we were dating.

  • Mine is topaz. I actually wouldn't mind some topaz jewelry, but either the setting is ugly and super traditional or it's set in yellow gold. I don't know who thinks that orange and gold go together, but it looks terrible!

H's is peridot. He has zero interest in birthstone jewelry.

  • Mine is garnet, I'm stalking a fabulous antique ring that I will probably never be able to afford. FI's is pearl, but apparently that month used to be agate. I found this poem in Wiki (which is really interesting) that was originally distributed by Tiffany's in the 1870s: By her who in this month (January) is born
    No gem save garnets should be worn;
    They will ensure her constancy,
    True friendship, and fidelity.

    The February-born shall find
    Sincerity and peace of mind,
Freedom from passion and from care,
If they an amethyst will wear.

Who in this world of ours their eyes
In March first open shall be wise,
In days of peril firm and brave,
And wear a bloodstone to their grave.

She who from April dates her years,
Diamonds shall wear, lest bitter tears
For vain repentance flow; this stone,
    Emblem of innocence, is known.

Who first beholds the light of day
In spring's sweet flowery month of May
And wears an emerald all her life
Shall be a loved and happy wife.

Who comes with summer to this earth,
And owes to June her hour of birth,
With ring of agate on her hand
Can health, wealth, and long life command.

    The glowing ruby shall adorn,
    Those who in July are born;
Then they'll be exempt and free
    From love's doubts and anxiety.

Wear a sardonyx or for thee,
    No conjugal felicity;
    The August-born without this stone,
`Tis said, must live unloved and lone.

A maiden born when September leaves
    Are rustling in September's breeze,
sapphire on her brow should bind
`Twill cure diseases of the mind.

October's child is born for woe,
    And life's vicissitudes must know,
But lay an opal on her breast,
And hope will lull those woes to rest.

Who first comes to this world below
In drear November's fog and snow,
Should prize the topaz's amber hue,
Emblem of friends and lovers true.

If cold December gave you birth,
The month of snow and ice and mirth,
    Place on your hand a turquoise blue;
Success will bless whate'er you do.
?Gregorian Birthstone Poems Apparently they change or update the birthstones every so often, so what we think of as ours may have changed quite a few times.

  • Mine is Ruby. I love it, my mom gave me a birthstone ring at 13 (family tradition). Unfortunately I lost it 2 years ago and can't wait to get another.

  • Pearl and Alexandrite (sp).

I LOVE pearls. I have a ton of them.

    No clue what H's is.

  • Pearl and Alexandrite. (IDK why my month has two, it was always so confusing)

But I think together, they are classy and gorgeous. But I don't get them because they are my birthstones. I don't really care if they are or aren't. My HS class ring has a sapphire, because I liked the blue better at that time.

Ironically enough, H's birthstone is Sapphire.

  • Mine is pearl, which I'm fine with. I have one pearl necklace but I rarely wear it.

H's is ruby. Needless to say he could give two sh!ts what his birthstone is.

  • Diamond! Love it. But I love peridot, pearl, citrine...very little I don't like. H's is sapphire, not that he would know that.
