Broken tailbone is making me feel lazy

So I broke or very very badly injured my tailbone on Tuesday. I was walking with my 17 month old daughter with shoes that don't have traction (apparently) and slipped right down the stairs. My instincts told me to keep my daughter safe so I had no arms to stop the fall.

Anyways, I couldn't sit down on Tuesday and couldn't lay down straight to get a good xray so they just said no matter what if its bruised or broken you have the same treatment.

I was scheduled for a sprint tri on April 28th. I can't even sit in my car without a pillow let alone a bike.

Anyone deal with one of these before? Have advice on what I can do? I just feel so lazy. I'm used to working out 6 days a week.  The doctor said I could probably run this weekend or definitely by next Tuesday. I was scheduled to run 14 miles but yeah that's not happening.

I also have a Warrior Dash on the 17th and a 203 mile relay March 31st - April 1st. Running 4 (5-7 mile legs) throughout the day and night.

Awesome timing huh?

  • Oh that sounds horrible. I have no experience to offer but wanted to say I'm sorry you're in so much pain! I fell with my son a couple of weeks ago but only jammed up my elbows.

  • Yikes, tailbone injuries are awful!

I hurt mine like 15 years ago and it still bothers me at times.  Seriously.

    Hope it heals soon!

  • I had this happen to me in the beginning of January.  I was walking down concetete steps and lost my footing, ended up landing on my tailbone and my lower back hitting the stair above me before slidding down 3 steps. I was black and blue for at least a month.  It's been 3 months and honestly it still gives me trouble every once in a while.

When I went back to working out I had to take things VERY slowly and work through the pain.  Working out actually helped a little.  I made sure to use Icy/Hot every night on the lower back/butt area.

I wouldn't start working out until you can at least walk comfortable and and least bend at the waist without it hurting.

  • I didn't break mine but I banged it very, very badly while skiing in January.  It still hurts.  It's better and I'm able to sit for the most part without leaning onto one butt cheek and I can walk.  After being on my feet for a while for instance while doing errands it flares up.  It flares up after my 8 hour shift where I sit most of the time.  It flares up every time I work out even if it's "light".  So I feel your pain.  Literally.  It sucks, I'm sorry CryingRight Hug
