Can someone help me find a Japanese snack?

Okay silly question but I'm having a terrible time figuring out what this is...

I want to make my BF a basket of his favorite snacks because he is travelling on business and I won't see him for 3 weeks.

My BF, who was born in England, raised between England and Scotland for the first 15 years of his life, and then lived in the states and Japan and England on and off through his adult life, said his favorite "candy" is dried lemons. I didn't push too hard, because I don't want him to know what I'm doing, but he said they're whole and black.

I googled it, and the only thing I can find is dried limes or lemon omani.

He told me he used to eat them in Japan.

Can anyone understand what I am talking about? Or is he just full of it?

Thanks in advance.

  • I spent nearly three years there and never saw anything like that.  Then again, I don't think I'd be looking to eat a black lemon!  I hope you find it for him!

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but maybe it's dried lemon peel. It's basically a dried whole lemon sometimes in strips with sweet and salty flavor on top of the lemony tartness. We had lots of those around in the candy stores in Hawaii.

     Good luck
