Getting rid of flies?

And Japanese beetles? My friend's house in infested! We've cleaned, bombed, resealed the windows. We're at our wits end! I know I've used vinegar to get rid of ants. And tricks for flies? Not fruit flies, regular buzzing flies.

Re: Getting rid of flies?

  • I've only ever used those sticky fly tape things that hang from the ceiling. And those I think are more for presence of mind than they are effective. I take it the flies are coming in from outdoors? They're not hatching in a houseplant or anything?

  • Sounds like it might be time to call the Orkin man. My parent had this problem in their basement a few years ago and Orkin was the only thing that worked.
  • We had the worst fly problem when we lived in Texas, we ended up getting those fly trap bags and hanging them outside our doors. They have a bad smell but caught a lot of flies so maybe try those. Or like PP suggested call the exterminator and see of they can do something.

  • We live in GA, where the wildlife creeps into your house.  We have frogs living in our backyard.  It's disgusting.  That being said, we bought one of those electronic fly swatter things that looks like a tennis racket but shocks the shiiit out of things.  Super fun. except when there was a humongous spider that got shocked 5 times. curled up into itself, and then crawled away.

    :shudder::

    But it worked well inside.

  • I think its time to call an exterminator.  It sounds like an infestation.

    Nope. Coming from outside. She has big skylight windows and they seem to hang out up there and then they drop dead to the floor and we have to sweep every other day.

    I live in the land of cockroaches. And I have one of those rackets. I have to click the fry button for a full minute before they die. It smells bad.
