The push press gets HEAVY as you move along. And you definitely have to start out with a steady even pace. Too fast out of the gate and you'll blow it.
I just did it and got 291. I know with a slight adjustment I can get to 300+ so I'll probably be back in this weekend to do it again.
Good job! 18 minutes is a long time. Did you break at random or after a round? I've seen both & am wondering if one is more efficient.
I did each set of work unbroken for about 4 rounds. I never break up my box jumps, just step down from the box instead of jumping down as that lets me pace myself and get some "working recovery." Took 1 break in the presses for rounds 5 and 6 and then 2 breaks in the presses after that, but I think I can improve in this area by doing a clean and jerk the whole time to save energy. Took 1 break in the toes to bar until the last round when I took 2. Key to toes to bar is if you think you're going to fail a rep, just take a little breather instead of wasting the energy getting *close* but not quite there.
And there's my strategy
Oh, I'm glad you posted this. I was just thinking about you and was going to post what you thought. Congrats girl. That was a fab score! But from the sounds of it, I'm sure you can totally get over 300!
I'm a wee bit nervous about the box jumps. I'm great at them but they exhaust me. We shall see. I doubt I will get anywhere near 300.
Seriously, *always* step down from the box. It keeps your pace from getting too fast which will be key for 18 minutes.
We did it this morning. My sorry pregnant azz got 195, with the presses scaled to 52# , knees to elbows, and step-ups instead of box jumps. I don't feel too bad, because I'm basically coming off a full month off.
My hands are crying from the push press/toes to bar combo. It was a fun WOD though!

GREAT work! It took hours for my forearms to feel normal again.
Those push presses are no joke. did a scaled version (since I can't do T2B, even if my life depended on it). I thought I had done 75# presses in WODs several times. Apparently not! Good WOD and happy I did the Rx'd for 2/3 of it!
Did you see that Annie T (last year's winner) got 13 rounds? Unreal!
:: lurker butting in :: A girl at my box did 12 and a half rounds - it was completely unreal to watch. I just started 2 months ago and did a scaled back version for fun and got through 7. Phew.
That must have been AMAZING to watch! Top person at our box has just shy of 10 rounds right now.
In the video of Annie T. it shows her taking rest breaks and I'm thinking to myself, "How do you take ANY breaks if you're doing 13.5 rounds??"
She is a freaking machine.
I think the highest score in our class this morning was 6 rounds and change. The real gunners in the class weren't there today, though. We had three pregnant women, a bunch of newbies, a guy with a neck injury and a few other randoms. Our box is kind of like the Bad News Bears most of the time.

The top male in our box is at 10+ & the female at 8+. Annie T is insane to watch. Just like her burpees video she never looked strained or even winded. She has a great poker face.
Good job getting through it Brie.
