My best memories from childhood are of camping with my family in an RV all over the country. I haven't been camping in 15 years, but my parents still have the camper. I talked DH into camping for our upcoming vacation and borrowing the camper and I'm so excited about it.
We'll be staying in St. Augustine for a few nights, and then heading to Orlando to visit some folks. We're staying at the Disney campground.
We'll only have two and 1/2 days in Orlando. We were going to spend one day with the people we are visiting and then do Magic Kingdom for a day. However, now I'm wondering if we should skip Magic Kingdom. Our son is only 21 months old, and he's in a bit of a crabby stage. Tickets are so expensive, and I know we'll regret going if he just tantrums the entire time.
The campground itself is pretty cool, with a petting zoo, playground, evening sing along and campfire, a beach and pool, etc. We could skip Magic Kingdom and just do fun stuff in the campground.
Another factor is that we'll be visiting these people in Orlando once every year, so my son will have plenty of opportunities to do all of the Disney parks.
WWYD? Skip Disney since he's so young and there is plenty of other stuff to fill up a short trip, or go to Magic Kingdom?
Re: Super excited about camping trip! Also, a Disney question
I took my daughter to Disney the first time when she was around 2 yrs old and she enjoyed it, but we had free tickets. I don't think I would have payed the $80 per person for us to go though.
I've got nothing against taking young children to Disney. My own older daughter went for the first time at 17 months old.
And despite the cost of a one day ticket, we've done that, too. Two years ago we disembarked the Disney Wonder then drove to Orlando for a day at MK.
But in the OPs case I'd probably skip it. My girls were a little older (4 and 6) so we got a lot out of the trip, which might not happen with a 21 month old, especially one in a "crabby stage" since it's going to be hot and crowded. We had no idea if/when we'd be back and wanted DD #2 to have her first Disney experience...her sister had already been there twice and she'd been asking for ages when it would be her turn. The OP has lots else to do that, IMO, is just as fun/exciting for a toddler and a lot more economical, and will be back many more times to take advantage of Disney. Under those circumstances, if it were me I'd skip it this time around and enjoy the campground.
if money is an issue and you go there every yr, then i could def see skipping it & doing the pool, as that is a lot of fun too for them. however, we took our dc when he was exactly 2 for his bday and he LOVED it. he went nuts actually, i was really surprised as we weren't sure if he would be into it or what. and he was REALLY into the characters at the age, whereas by 5 he wasn't into them as much.
i think you'll have fun whatever you do!
Thanks for the responses! I'm nearly certain we're going to skip doing a park. It's not that we can't afford to do it, but it's still a lot of money to spend if he ends up not having a good time. Even if he would enjoy it, he won't remember it and we'll have an opportunity to do this every year. I know he's going to have a blast just at the campground.
I'm trying to get a character dining reservation, but am having a hard time finding availability. Hopefully I'll find something!
