Planning a fall trip to NE
We are planning a fall trip to NE, and I am wondering of anyone could help me with good options in CT and/or RI. We will be driving with our toddler (who will be 2 by then), so we want to stay within 8 hours or so of Baltimore if possible.
I know (well, I think) the leaves would be "better" if we head west, but we are leaning more towards some of the coastal towns, as they seem closer to us from what I can tell.
My question is, will we even see any foliage if we stay more on the coast (i.e. possibly head to Mystic, Newport, etc.)?
TIA!
Re: Planning a fall trip to NE
of course. the coast has trees and they change colors as well
but the coast (I'm on the north shore of LI right across the sound from CT) area changes much later than say NH, VT, ME and MA. we're usually late october/early november.
the question isn't if the is fall foliage there but if you get there at the correct time.
RI is great in the fall! We have the color changes a little later in the season, and to really appreciate the colors you have to drive out of Newport a little bit also just to actually see an abundance of color.
Fall is nice here though, most of the crowds are gone (but the cruise ships start coming in) the temperatures are great, and you can actually get a reservation at our amazing restaurants!!
Thanks!
We were thinking of planning for mid October, does that seem like a good time of year? Also, when you say "drive out of Newport", what direction did you mean? I know this probably sounds dumb, just want to plan accordingly.
We were thinking of checking out Mystic, CT too, do you think that would be a nice stop?
I also love Bristol in RI. So cute and quaint. Newport is lovely, and Angiem33 gave great recommendations for when I was there last.
All I remember from Mystic was the aquarium which was great, but I am sure there are other lovely parts about the town as well.
If you come up to VT/NH in October you should see some great foliage, but it would need to be towards the beginning or middle of the month.
