Clean eating and EBFing

Posted this over on The Bump, but reposting here since it seems like this board is much more active.

Has anyone here started eating clean while EBFing a newborn? I ate pretty clean before I was pregnant, but I indulged quite a bit and am now hoping to clean up my diet again. I wondered if any clean eating moms have any tips for getting started again and also if anyone had any issues with milk supply.

As of now my milk supply is great, and I'm not really looking to do it for rapid weight loss or anything. I just feel kind of blah and want to feel better.

Thanks!

  • I've eaten clean for awhile and am EBFing. I don't think starting to eat clean is going to have any effect on your supply but it's always a great thing to eat clean anyway. That's great that you want to make the change for the better!

Here are a few tips I have about eating clean and how to make it easier as a mom. HTH!

  • As long as you are not severely restricting calories and staying hydrated you should be fine.  I have moms in the NICU who exist on McDonalds and have a fabulous milk supply...go figure.  You just need to make sure you are fueling your body appropriately and eating enough.
  • Thanks ladies! This is super helpful.

Mrs. Acorn, about the McDonald's thing, I was shocked in the hospital when the LC actually told me not to eat vegetables because they may upset my baby's stomach. She told me to stick to bland foods like grilled cheese and fries. Seriously, lady?

And Mrs. Red Fox--love the blog. I subscribed and have been looking through it this morning for ideas.
