Working out/Being healthy
Howdy!
How's everyones day going? Everyone happy it's Friday? I am. I just love the feeling of the weekend.
I'm sitting here about ready to go do my work out and I thought I'd ask you all, what do you do for exercise?
Do you just try to take walks every so often, do you have a program you follow, a trainer at the gym? etc etc.
Also, what are some of your favorite healthy meals, snacks, etc.

~~~Jan 31st, 2010. Back together again.~~~
Re: Working out/Being healthy
Just recently I bought beachbody's Turbo Fire. I love it! It's so tough and it kicks my butt. However, that's what it's suppose to do, so I guess it's working. I had started the 90 day program they have but then my in-laws came into town and I got off-track. It's been hard to get back into it this week, but I'm so excited to, and I know it can only do good in these 90 days. I'll be sure to give my testimonial to you girls.
As far as eating goes, I'm not currently on this, but will get back up on it come Monday. (I need to go grocery shopping tomorrow) But basically I get 100% concentrated cranberry juice and poor it into a jug of water, I pour as much as I need to in order to get the water pretty dark. I drink that all day. I make sure to eat lots of vegetables, some fruits and a little lean meats. I also have this really healthy dark chocolate that is full of antioxidants and eating three of them is like eating a pound of spinach. Anyway, it helps with my chocolate cravings too. (Unless you count this past week where I indeed, needed chocolate to survive. haha) I also avoid wheats, most dairy and sugar.
**Edited to add a few things. **
I prefer doing workout DVDs in my living room to most other forms of exercise. I do enjoy swimming as well.
I have sort of a thing for cucumber slices with honey mustard, bell pepper slices with hummus, tortilla chips and pico. I also like pouring an ounce or two of mango juice in a cup and filling the rest with soda water. Very refreshing and only about 40 calories.
I do about 45 min on the elliptical every night after the girls are in bed and I'm trying to do a short workout video after. If it's too late I just do around 25 min on the elliptical but on much higher levels and inclines. I do a couple sets of ab workouts on the exercise ball after. At this point its better than nothing. I need to do some more weight and resistance stuff to get toned, but cardio is helping with weight loss a lot so I'm happy with what I've got going on. I'm not able to go to a gym so I'm limited to just what I can do at home.
I do P90X but when I'm pressed for time or don't feel like doing a whole segment I do my own routine: 20 push ups (in girl form but I'm striving for full on), 20 oblique crunches on each side, 20 leg climbs, and 20 twist to toes (feet shoulder width apart, twist down to try and touch your foot with the opposite hand, come back up and repeat on the other side).
As far as healthy food goes, I'm not very good but you can't go wrong with lots of fresh fruits and veggies and substitute your red meat with lean protein or non-animal protein.
Honestly, I don't exercise much. I will do Yoga when I need energy, and I will run when I am really stressed, but other than that, nothing.
What has really helped me was learning that my body doesn't process meats very well. I have switched to eating more fiber based foods and less animal protein. It's been amazing. I've lost 13 pounds, since October when I started this. I want to be a full on vegetarian by the summer, but I am transitioning slowly; I eat one small serving of meat a day right now. That's usually with DH at dinner.
I've also been trying to cut out down on sugar. So drinking less juice and no more cookies.
I workout daily. Sometimes it's a simple DVD at home, but during the week I go to one of the base gyms to work out. It's a hoot, because I'm there during PT hours, and am obviously one of the few non-servicemembers there.
Mostly at the gym I do cardio. I know I need to add in some weights at some point, but so far the meatheads at the gym are still a bit too intimidating to deal with heading into the weights area...
As for healthy snacks, life's a bit wacky right now - we're doing a Paleo eating challenge, which makes our food a bit different than normal. So now, good snacks would be raw veggies, nuts, fresh fruit, a piece of chicken leftover from last night, etc... When I wasn't doing Paleo, snacks were similar, but didn't usually include nuts or meat on it's own, and would also include things like Kashi bars, yogurt with fruit and a bit of Kashi Go Lean (granola would be nice, but it's high fat), babybel light cheese thingees, etc...
I go to CrossFit three days a week & strive to do 30DS on the other days. If I'm super sore the day after CF I take O on a long walk to loosen things up for the next class.
As far as eating I just try to make smart choices & plan ahead. If I don't plan we are more likely to eat crap.
I just started working out and eating healthier again when Lent started because it gave me a reason to force myself to do it. I'm very good at procrastination.
I do at least 30 minutes of activity every day. Usually it's either walking the dogs, going for a run/walk outside, or doing something from Jillian Michaels. I really like her Fitness Ultimatum for the Wii. I have 2011 which is great and 2009 which sucks because I can't get it to track right. But I sweat my butt off doing it and can definitely tell.
The first week I just added exercise, and now the second week I added eating healthier. I'm not doing any diet in particular, but just adding much more veggies and healthier choices. Also for Lent I gave up pop and alcohol, so that is helping too.
After my first 2 weeks I've lost 5 pounds, but even better than that is I feel a million times better. I've thought about joining a gym but for now I'll stick to the stuff I already have as long as it's working. I can start riding my bike again probably whenever too.
Oh, also I'm about to try the apple cider vinegar thing where you put 2tsp of it in 16oz of water everyday. It's supposed to have a ton of benefits for you, including boosting your metabolism.
I usually just go to the gym and jog on the treadmill or do the elliptical. The weather will start getting nice soon and when we move on post we'll live right on a 3 mile track so I plan to walk/run and start rollerblading on it.
I usually eat pretty heathy meals but I've been out of town visiting my family for 3 weeks and have been terrible with my eating habits!
Eta- we had a new center open on post and I plan on trying to get into CrossFit again. We'll see how that goes, if I don't kill myself.
For exercise, I try to run 50 miles/month. Sometimes I do the 30-day shred too. As far as eating goes, I plan out my meals ahead of time. I don't eat super healthy, but try to watch my portion size, drink lots of water, and eat more fruits and veggies.
