What do flutters feel like?

Is it kinda like a twitching feeling?  I can't decide if I'm starting to feel movement or just being hopeful.

Re: What do flutters feel like?

  • I have an anterior placenta so I didn't feel movement until much later and wasn't even sure if I was until the baby kicked the doppler at an OB appointment.  I kind of missed the whole 'flutters' stage because of the anterior placenta.  I think it can feel like twitches or gas bubbles.

  • At first it was hard to differentiate between baby movement and gas bubbles (and we all know the pregnancy comes with lots of gas) but like Beth said, sort of like twitches.

I remember first noticing it about 20-30 minutes after lunch when I was sort of pressed up into my desk.

    Exciting!

  • I told DH it felt like my eye was twitching except it was something inside my stomach. Sometimes It felt like gas bubbles. I have gas a good bit TMI I know but it didnt get worse when I got PG so It was not as hard for me to distingush gas bubbles with baby. I never could figure out if my kids had the hiccups or not.

  • Oh!  I should add, it was also really neat at my a/s when I could actually see the baby moving and relate that to what I was feeling/thinking I was feeling.

  • I felt him at 15 weeks but I had a posterior placenta. To me, it felt like butterflies fluttering I my tummy. It is hard to tell the difference between gas and movement.

  • They were like gas bubbles for me. I only knew they were actual kicks when I felt them and didn't rip one immediately after haha!

    LOL!

Yeah, I thought it was gas too at first. When they get stronger, it kinda feels to me like someone is poking me.

  • Definitely feels like a muscle twitch in your stomach. I had a few very far between in the beginning of 2nd tri. You should be feeling things about now at 19 weeks. It will only get better from here. Then you get all ninja baby things going on, which is cool.

  • Oh, and hiccups is essentially kicks at a steady beat. I used to get them really low, because he was face down for quite some time. To be honest, he got them so much that I was annoyed. Then as an infant, he got the hiccups all day as well. Poor kid. I couldn't sleep some nights, because it was a constant twitch on my bladder for 15 minutes or so.
